so yesterday i drove a 6 hr round trip to collect a pair of monitor audio 952md's. i had these before and never really gave them a chance as my ns1000's turned up. well i listened to them for a few hours and they sounded very good,it was only after pluging the ns's back in i realised once again just how bloody good the yamaha's are,so a total waste of 6hrs,fuel etc for a trip down memory lane only to find out why i sold the last pair in the first place! dont get me wrong the m952's are a good speaker, they just dont come close to ns1000's,it was the same with the coral beta 10's i bought.
has this happened to you?
no more buying speakers for me,the time and money are better spent on crossover parts for the yammy's!

Always found MA's to be a bit metallic sounding.

Heard a pair of 952MD a year ago. Didn't find them metallic.
In 2008 my father had the GR20 floorstanders. Those had a very fast upfront sound.

It's just confirmation that you've moved a few steps ahead in your systems performance. I'd be happy to have evidence of this. Imagine plugging in th eMa and they battered you Yammies! You'd wonder why you'd bothered lol

I heard my first pair of Yamaha NS1000's a couple of weeks ago, couldn't hear what all the fuss was about. They certainly have an upfront sound, but no body, making them sound thin. I've only heard one Monitor Audio speaker that I could listen to, but cannot remember the no.

Hahaha!
I think a lot of it has to do with partnering equipment. I've heard yammies and on the end of Nick Gorhams MFA monos, they were superb.
On the wrong amp, anything can sound terrible.
What was the system you heard the Yams on Dave?

It was at the recent Woodland Grange show, don't know what amps and source were used. Seriously don't know what amp would fill them out though.

I was blown away by the ones I heard........ although, in the same system, on the same day, others didn't fancy them.

They were active or semi active at the show if it’s the same room I’m thinking of, and yes sounded dire.
