'The future is all that counts' & all that crap.. Are the people that come out with this for real..
We need to look back in many ways.. Technology wise is a good thing & quite obviously a progression, but its not only done for the sake of Technology, there strongest reason is to make money, because most modern tech products are of poor quality.
I personally look back a lot for memories & all the good times i had when i was young, Life just dont seem as good as it was back then.. You will always see the odd thing dotted around our place even though its now all modern, cant help it. My motto is use Technology only if you really need to. Old & new can very happily live together, but the old will always be the winner..

Good thread, I agree with you. Looking back can be a wonderful feeling. For the good memories of course!

When you see some of the shite turned out and sold as hifi today, who wouldn’t want to look back? There’s still good stuff made today but it’s hardly a golden age.

We've got the big tellies though. As a child that was the one thing that I hoped would happen in the future. Big tellies. And it did. So I'm not complaining even if the rest of it is a bit crap.

Aye things were better back in the good old days.
60s 70s
Things were simpler. Technology has changed society for the worse imho and the computer age especially.
Time's move on. And we just gotta role with em, but I fear for the kids of the future, technology is making us humans redundant.

Tellies are good these days however not without problems..
Only a handful of channel are HD. SD looks so shite on a new TV. Same with DVD machines. Blu Ray look good, standard DVD machines again crap.. TV technology & broadcast are not running in line with each other hence i for one will never be happy.

I had one but only got it in 2007 when the plasmas started coming out and you could finally get them cheap. I couldn't afford three grand for a telly. Good un and all. Sony. 50 inch. Still going strong 12 years on. My mate's son has it in his bedroom now.

Of course things were simpler back in the day. As a kid I was always out playing with friends, and of course running away from the local bobby, but we still had tv's and telephones. For me the real advances in my time that have done mankind any good are medical.

Do not look back, the past is the past. Do not ignore the lessons of History however, if so, do so at your peril. We all look back to our younger years and regard them as the best times, I have given this some thought, and in my case my cynicism feeds into this view. Our medical is far better, the cars are safer if you have ever driven a car made in the early 50's for example you will soon see how dangerous they were with cross ply tires that sent you into a ditch in the rain. And brakes you had to encourage with a prayer. Windscreen wipers, vacuum operated that came to a halt when you hit a hill. Plus you were always fiddling with the things.
There were no perverts when I was a kid we roamed around the town and in the bush like wild animals. We have to put up with a lot more control now, the law is applied strictly, not left to the discretion of the cops. If I carried on now like I did as a youth I would be locked up.
Political correctness has got out of hand, nobody can laugh at themselves any more, they all take umbrage at the slightest thing. I spend quite a lot of time with people a lot younger than me, people still enjoy themselves only in different ways. Time passes slow when you are young, as you get older it passes by in a flash, so fast you can't remember what you did a year ago. Those salad days are still held dear because you remember them, it was new and exciting, as you get older life becomes a bore, you have seen it all, done it all, tasted all, and felt the pain. Getting old has a few big advantages, you have the time to sit back chill, crack a bottle of vino or in my case a box, put on some tunes and not have to answer to the clock, or a bloody boss ever again.
I do like old things, they have a charm, a soul, you can see the work of the artisan who made them. Not like today where everything is designed to be disposable, and new stuff has to be purchased, to feed the destructive consumer economy bullshit.

I was only talking to someone yesterday on a similar subject, nobody tells jokes anymore most possibly because you're going to upset some snowflake. I have absolutely no problem with a joke about the British, we know what we are and we know what we're like. Changing the subject slightly, I see the England footballers are going to walk off if there are any racist chants. I don't believe in racism, but what the f..k, ignore the mindless idiots and get on with the game, prove you a better by performing to your best. What would happen if the ref walked off everytime his parents marital status was questioned.

Best thing to do with some kid throwing a tantrum is to ignore it, hecklers are just as immature as two year old's.

Personally I have a shockingly poor memory of the past, so most of it's just a blur. I tend to live in the moment, plus having children means that to some extent I've been forced to think/plan ahead, rather than keep harking back to the good old days. In purely material terms, I like living in a big house, after growing up in a small house with five other people. I hardly watch TV, so big tellys have mostly passed me by.

Drive a car on cross ply's I drove 1950's cars, my first a 1951 Ford Anglia, it was lethal in the wet. No radials for me in my day, if they were available they were expensive. I was just an apprentice. Seem to remember it had Kelley tyres on it.
