Cheers. So the funker goes on the original bearings . Where's the platter from ? It looks well nice. Is it made from the same stuff as the gyrodec one ?

The platter is from Funk, as is the bearing and the feet. The parts are not cheap....

Worth it though ? 🙂 I mean if you could possibly put a percentage of improvement over the standard deck , what would it be ? 10% ...20% ?

The bearing makes a small change if your bearing is in good condition. The platter also makes a small change. The biggest change comes from the arm in my opinion.
The platter will fit a standard bearing. It is made from glass from what I can see, with some kind of adhesive between the two layers. I also filled my bearing well with wax to support the bearing better.
The sum of the mods has lifted the performance considerably, but as they were done over a period of time, it is difficult to say how much difference each one made.
You could buy a new SL1200 for less money than what the Funk parts would cost though.

The platter alone is ÂŁ840 at Analogue seduction. The bearing is ÂŁ420 at MCRU. The arm is pretty much unobtanium, but something different would do.

That is expensive . I think I'll just stick to playing it alongside the gyrodec.

Well, I love my SL1200 mk2. It is not standard anymore as it has a load of Funk Firm upgrades, but these take it to another level in my opinion. I have the FX1200 arm, spin bearing, strata platter and Bo!ng feet. I don’t feel the need to change it, as it does everything I want. This is the first turntable I have owned, so I have little experience of others apart from my brother’s RP3, cheap Akai and whatever my father had when growing up. “OldPinkMan” was impressed by my modded SL1200, and he has tried far more turntables than me. Sure, there are better looking and sounding turntables out there, but I won’t spend the money trying to find one. Amy chance of a pic ? I use a standard absolutely pristine untouched in any way one. I'd be interested in a step by step to improve it. To be honest though I love it as it is. I tried an achromat and rubber feet and an isolation platform . None of them improved it. Changed it but not for the better. I have a rewired Johnny 7 RB300 and an zalphason Xenon doing nothing . Would it be worth it ? Cheers , Cagey Yes it would. Some say a Rega arm will not work well on an SL1200 but they are wrong. It's a big step up.

How difficult would it be to fit ? I'm an aircraft inspector , not a turntable jobber.

Dunno but I know someone who has done it so it's not impossible.
I was always of the opinion that the stock arm is fine until I heard that deck. Nothing else had been changed, just the arm.

I've only used two turntables in the past 35 years; a Roksan Xerxes and a Roksan Xerxes X. So they must have left an impression. One that left an impression in a bad way was a Pink Triangle. It was set up by the dealer, who clearly thought it was the bee's knees (so it's not like my cack-handedness was to blame), to me it sounded way too soft and cosy.

It's not that Rega arms and their derivatives don't work on a Techie. It's just that they are a pain in the arse 'cos the arm lifter sits too low if you have the arm at the right height. Makes it bloody awkward to use as you have to scrabble around for it once the arm is lowered (the Regas don't sound exactly wonderful anyway, the Mission 774 is in a totally different league on a Techie).

I am agnostic as to what arm is best in a Techie. Especially as I don't do vinyl anymore.
I heard an SL1210 with a Rega RB300 arm and it was noticeable step up from the stock arm. I have heard many other SL1210 that have also had the arms changed out but they all had extensive mods in addition to the arm, so I could not say in those cases how much improvement was due just to the arm.
With the RB300 Techie there were no other mods done so all improvements can safely be laid at the door of the arm. There may well be better arms you can fit than a Rega RB300 but given Engine has one lying about already...

It's been silver wired which made quite a difference. It's only a pipe dream.

It is easy to fit. You just need the right arm board, but you will lose the on the fly VTA adjustment.

To be honest I think I like the idea of it being a monster on its original form. You never know ... I Only paid ÂŁ200 for it. Some mental millionaire technic freak might pay me an obscene amount of lucre for it one day.

But you can change it back easily to the original arm.
