Tough one this. A lot of stuff that when I was young I thought was bound to be old tat turned out to be really good when I finally got to hear them. Radford amps, Tannoys, and yes, QUAD ESL Agree about Dynaco and AR speakers. I'd add Garrard 301 and 401. They're not rubbish but they are over-rated. Then again I'm tempted to add vinyl as a whole medium. Reel to reel is deffo over-rated though. People go into raptures about it, no idea what that's all about. Yeah it's better than vinyl, so what? That's not a high bar to clear. QUAD 405. Bag of shite. Sugden A21 and various iterations are over rated too but they're not crap. I think people over-rate them because it's the only decent amp they ever heard. Denon DL103 - thick toned and crude. Really, who wants that? I suppose they work on flat earth systems because they cancel out the tinny harshness and the lack of bass. Tannoy Turnberry. Neither fish nor fowl.

Sorry to say but I’d have to Chuck the KSA 80 and 100 under this particular bus.
Dual 505 was shite so it would go too.
Later Mark Levinson amps are unremarkable, so they can join the club.
Rega arms are Sh#t unless you mod them.
Goldring 1000 series carts are plain janes

I'd say old Krells are massively under-rated, at least in the UK.

A couple of years ago I’d have said Naim Nait 1 and 2. I really liked both recently and have had to revise my opinion. I would say 135s are over rated though. Dead sounding to me.

What about Croft? Some folk wet themselves over it, Most of them look like a school project built by a special needs kid. Are they as good as folk claim?

Which Crofts though, there's zillions of them?
I had the micro basic pre and Series 7 power. Vinyl sounded great, digital less so. Very coloured. Everything sounds like it was made at the same time in the same studio. if you don't care about that and just want an enjoyable sound then I'd say they are not over-rated. And the crappy quality of the cases and switches keeps the price reasonable.

The 3 series used to eat caps for breakfast. The Cd Transports had more loose screws than a Studebaker.

Some bloke here has just sold a set of Turnberry's the guys were drooling over them. He sold them chop chop. The most disappointing speaker for the price to my ear is the Tannoy Royal Kingdom. My mates sent a big Krell up in smoke, bloody things go bellow two Ohms I am lead to believe. They are just so pernickety as to what music you feed them.
