Amazing how one act of stupidity can have a domino effect that can ruin everything
Once upon a time i used to be a Record collector of Obscure Progressive & Psychedelic music of the late 1960s to early 1970's. All had to be mint condition & 1st Issues. They certainly were & id amasses approx 3000LP's.
Loverly, my pride & joy even though at that time the value was nothing compared to the value now. Were talking the cost of a small semi-detached house value. During a Divorce a impulsive act of panic took the lot to a dealer & where sold them.
I do not honestly know what was going thru my head at the time but i think it was a case of she aint having them. O i suppose i was thinking i could get them on CD as a lot of this stuff was beginning to surface on the silver disc which i did when i gradually got back to normality, but CD players just did not sound right to me back then & i was never happy never mind loosing everything that came with a record ie: the wonderful sleeve art & all the rigmarole of taking a record out the packet & putting it on.
Here is the part where the issue lies & ofc the damage that such a hasty move caused. 1st issue Prog/Psych albums not only cost an arm & a leg to buy, they are very hard to come by & never in the condition, hence dream on. I did try to settle with re-issues but they sound Sh#t & most are unofficial/Bootlegs. I tried & tried over the years, even swapping & changing Decks/Arms/Carts in hope these Re-Issues would sound a bit like the originals, but no, even when i found some acceptable they just did not have the quality of the 1st issue packets, Pressings & sleeve details.
So then this is the main reason i finished with Vinyl for good. If i still had that original collection i would still be listening to vinyl exclusively even though to me its a very flawed way to listen to music. CD is Sh#t imho, always has been, ive always hated it but it was the only option i had back then in my situation. Nowadays i find FLAC files to sound very good & would never change now. But i do miss that collection of records & kick myself constantly for pretty much destroying what i once lived for.
