What do you think as the most thin on the ground Pre-Amps on the used market.
Inca Design 'ID-1P' Which was the companion to the Inca Design 'ID-25/ID-50'/ID-75' Power amps..

Oh yes you do want another IC-150 (probably thre A version with updated chips and a proper stepped attenuator), 'cos the IC-150 is arguably a lot more transparent than most audiophool Sh#t out there - been there, done it and use two regularly still. Just feed a variable output source straight into your power amp and then put preamp of choice in the line, matching volumes as best as possible. That's how I can say what I do and the bloody old Crown changes it's 'sound' with the sources fed it, but maybe the phono stage, despite wonderful specs, isn't quite as characterful as current half decent ones...
Maybe I'm the one in error, as I want my source and amp components to give out what goes in, just louder and with absolutely NO processing as most preamps did in the 80's and even Glenn croft has transformed the brash or soggy tones of his early pre's (depending on the model) to something far more transparent to the source with stock valves. Rolling these adds character I think. So there!

I errrm "borrowed" one (Pre 2) back in the late 70s from the shop I worked in and it was tough returning it, but I couldn't afford it at the time.
Seen one or two for sale over the years on ebay and the last one looked as though it had been used as an axle stand, plus it had no modules inside it either. The clown was asking £600 for it

The clown was asking £600 for it I had my Pre-2 for twenty years. I tried a lot of other pre-amps, but nothing touched it until I got a Forte Model 2. Eventually sold both after buying my VTL Deluxe, which sounds easily as good, but in a valve way and also has the best built in phono stage I've come across. The Ming Da MC-9 beats all of them though.

Did you ever take a suitable source straight into the power amp and then put your preamp directly in the line? Shocked me it did...

Toft Audio LBPA5.
From Malcom Toft's somewhat less than succesful foray into the domestic market. I was told once that only 14 were ever made. Based heavily, I was told, on his mixing desks, switches between single ended and balanced on all inputs, phase invert, channel swap, mute/muteL/muteR etc. Had mine for years now and doubt it will ever be sold on. Tried so many different pre amps but in long term I have always ended back here.
Out of system right now as I experiment with a DCB1.......
