I know these are quite controversial.
Are they very powerful?

A 250 in general will sound powerful. All my 250s have been either bolt down or Chrome Bumper. Olive 140 is nicer than CB140, so I’d imagine the same to be true of 250, but I’ve not had one yet.

70WPC brick-walled due to the regulation although I think it meets 140W at 4 ohms at 1khz. Into some speakers, the 180 actually went louder and without overheating!!!!! So expensive now when a Quad 606 family amp is so much better to the ears and on paper - into 4 ohms as well... the Quad doesn't drift off after a few years either, requiring re-adjustment but of course it doesn't have the looks, which is why I all but ignored it for so long.
Oh - and an old Naim power amp needs a band limited preamp ideally to prevent potential nasty distortions if the preamp is too wide-band,

I've used all of Naim's 250's and with some power hungry speakers like my 4ohm Dynaudios and in my room at very loud levels they all would start to come undone a bit. Don't get me wrong at the right volume and with the correct pre they can sound excellent and are very enjoyable my favourites in order where.
32.5/HC/Bolt Down 250
82/SC/Olive 250
282/HC/250DR
32.5/HC/CB250
282/250-2.

Depends what you mean by powerful?, it is very powerful at stripping wallpaper at nine yards, yes and it is more powerful than an amp which is only 20 watts per channel, well yes.
Not sure I get the question to be honest.

They are over priced crap which a Quad 606 or 909 will thrash for a fraction of the price.

It’s best that I don’t comment about the Naim forum otherwise I’ll probably fall foul of the rules of this forum, but let’s just say I’m not a fan of the individuals that frequent it on the whole.

Unfortunately there are a few very, very blinkered individuals over there but there are also some very nice members who are willing to offer help and advice. It is however a one brand forum run by the brand itself so that says it all really.

I’ve only looked in a few times. I saw very little in the way of knowledge or sense. A bit like a religious sect.
