An adjustment period is definitely needed.
It's changed in almost every way imaginable.

That looks a lot better! I'd go a little further and lower your kit beneath the speaker drivers. I wouldn't want anything impinging the sounstage.

Looks good, classic set up now. Yep, far more conventional. Sounding pretty good now too. Unfortunately, I have to make new cables. Expect a fire sale everyone

Nice work and I see the speakers have been brought forward a few inches, time now to listen before any further cable changes are made.

Yesterday evening proved to be quite an eye-opener whilst listening to the system in its new position.Â
A few thoughts:
When the gaffer and I were moving the piano, there was a moment when we were talking to each other from either end of it. The piano was humming along to us talking, which I knew it would do, but I hadn't realised how audible it was. I have also rehomed the guitars temporarily, and again whilst listening to music, you could hear the guitar slightly joining in.Â
Well, with all of that out of the room, I am now slightly missing the harmonising of the sound I had with those instruments in there. That may sound odd, but as I am SO used to it, its absence it highly obvious.Â
Another "issue" is that with the system sounding so clean and unimpeded, its become a little hard sounding. The lack of furnishing in the room means that there is a bit of an edge to everything as the reflections are just going bonkers. I need to add some acoustic panels, even if they are only temporary as it can be quite distracting.Â
However, that aside.....
The space has given me a very acceptable soundstage. For the first time ever in my room I played an ambient focussed track and felt like certain instruments were being played in the other room behind the speakers. On a number of well recorded tracks, there is a definite "behind the speaker" feel, and that is exactly what should be happening. Vocals are now dead centre, rather than having to sit slightly to one side to compensate.Â
The speakers are now also fitted correctly to the Townshend Seismic bars and I have levelled them far better than when they were originally fitted.Â
The gains to the performance are undeniable and are well worth the effort so far, but this isn't over just yet. I need to fine tune a wee bit.Â

If that's glass and steel your gear is sitting on it will contribute to the ' hard ' sound you're getting Oli. Wood is better for hifi component supports IMO.

Covering up those glass doors would be my first move. Pin up a blanket or something similar. If you've got a bookcase full of books somewhere bring it in and stick it on the wall opposite the fireplace.
If you've got any decent size potted plants bring them in, smaller ones on the bookcase (if you have one) larger ones in corners behind the speakers. Will all help to damp it down.

How lucky are you I live with two who have to have new dress, handbag, shoes, and all accessories for every new occasion. Couldn't possibly be seen wearing the same gear twice

Couldn't possibly be seen wearing the same gear twice 🤣 None of that here mate. The gaffer is a "mother earth" type. Saves bees, rehomes mice (when I'm not trapping them) and has created multiple sites in the garden for birds to nest. She isn't interested in occasions and to be fair, neither am I 🤣🤣 My daughter ....... Yes....full on female of femininity and loves Make-up etc, but she doesn't live with me so I don't see it.

At some point, I'm going to discuss these speaker cables I've made. Until then, you'll just have to let your imagination run wild.
