ANNOUNCEMENT
Seems you can't talk factually about the Paradise phonostage without people getting all pissy and upset.
I shall write my review, post the findings and lock the thread in the reviews area of the forum, in my good time.
If you don't like what i have to say, you don't have to read it.

Vinyl as a medium is massively inaccurate in all sort of different ways that totally eclipse a tiny variation in RIAA compliance. That's why way back when all the serious accuracy nuts were into reel to reel, not vinyl.

Why add another variance when it isn't necessary? If you cant hear the 0.6db lift at 20hz, which has been claimed, why put it in??
"Compensate for poorly mastered 80's pressings" So what happens if you aren't playing 80's pressings? You get a lift where you don't need one!
It's like saying " my car has a few dents and scratches, so i'll hit it with the hammer a few times. It's flawed anyway"
It's stupid. You are only devaluing the car further.
"I'll put a pair of bigger wheels on the left side of my car, as when i drive over a pot hole, it'll help balance the car out for that precise moment" regardless of the fact that you'll be lopsided the rest of the time!
The same applies to RIAA accuracy. if you already have issues elsewhere why compound them further? Why ADD more variance? It's only job is to apply a filter to correct/oppose the one they used when they cut the vinyl. It's the absolute essence of the unit!
I said the Same about the old NVA Phono 2, way back before the new ownership, who have since sorted it out. It too had a lift, more prominent than the reported figures that i previously deleted in regard to the Paradise.
It's ok if the owners don't care, But it's not wrong to highlight that it is there, and it certainly doesn't require impassioned defence of the phonostage or chucking insults at me, just because i have said so !
It's there...no matter what anyone says about it.
I also wasn't criticising the phonostage for it. I just wondered if anyone who owned them, knew about them coming with the "house Sound" built in.
Obviously they didnt.

Dow we have an FR plot of a Paradise? The 0.6dB lift in bass would have to cover several octaves up from 20Hz if it was going to be audible. If it went as far up as 200Hz I reckon you might notice it as a subtle emphasis. Depending on the music ofc. But there's more variation in cartridges than that. Just not worth worrying about.

I couldn't hear a bass lift personally with mine but at least this gives me the opportunity to get more accurate RIAA values should I choose.

I couldn't hear a bass lift personally with mine but at least this gives me the opportunity to get more accurate RIAA values should I choose. I really wasn't being critical of the Phonostage, Andrew. I am building one myself (with Angus) and I wouldn't waste the money if I didn't think it to be an excellent Phonostage, which I absolutely do think. Obviously, my highlighting of this ruffled the feathers of some, but this forum is all about cutting through the appeasement that is often afforded to certain products, due to the fear of being savaged by the owners club. Shiit owners clubs are a prime example of this. There is no point having forums if we can't be honest about what's going on. I am reliably informed today, that my assertion that the RIAA Lift would be audible is correct. By a guy who would know. He's not a member here, so I won't be providing any further details on that source. He said he is also going to provide me with frequency plots that show that this isn't a step, rather its a rising slope that starts before the reported 20hz marker, which was claimed to be inaudible yesterday. Of course, I won't mention it again if those plots don't materialise, as he is a super busy guy. But I am already told by two guys I am very confident in that this is the case, so why would I need it. If you are enjoying the Phonostage as is, don't worry about it, I just mentioned it to see whether anyone was aware of the "80s compensation" in the curve

I wasn't aware that phonostages have "80s compensation" RIAA compensation as an option, I think big industry missed a trick here Oli

Oh you'll have to turn the one around so the leads are roughly the same length.

"I'll put a pair of bigger wheels on the left side of my car, as when i drive over a pot hole, it'll help balance the car out for that precise moment" Great tip mate, we get loads of pot holes round here, the roads are in a terrible state. I'll mention it to our mechanic next time we get the MOT done ! Cheers for that.

It's all the work of Phonomac and the Layout for the PCB was done by Craig, at Craigtone. The PSU is a Walt Jung PSU, from ebay. The stepped attenuator is Phonomacs ..custom made with an Elma switch
