My dac stack has died, think the fifo board has thrown a main bearing or summit.

Just awaiting the Files for this now as everything is finalised and ready to go. Opamp will be soldered directly to the PCB, so no Opamp rolling, but with the specs on the one we are using, it's a pointless excercise. Really looking forward to knocking one of these up.

Ah, well they are not "real" Telefunken mate.
They are Siemans made Telefunkens.
Simply, they are very good but it niggles me that they aren't authentic.

How don they compare to the CMRs? I'm not going to draw too many absolute conclusions atm, as i had over 100hrs on them and these have about 24hrs so far, but i will say that the huge soundstage the CMR throws is not diminished by these caps at all, that i can tell. The other think i really disliked about mundorfs of the past is their habit of being overly smooth. These categorically do not suffer from that. They are very transparent and i don't feel there is any loss of micro or macro detail. acoustic scenery is just plainly obvious too, so that sense of space in the recording, and the space in the soundstage has been well preserved by the mundys. So far, i think they probably need to open up just a smidge, and then the HF will soar. Once that happens, and i am 100% convinced it will, They will be as good as the CMR in my opinion. I was in a hurry to get the Janzen Silver Z capacitors out, but these Mundys are here for the long haul. I have no urge to remove them at all, and won't. These are very good capacitors.

The new BBA/AWM buffer boards have just landed. Sleeeeeek! For those who haven't guessed as to who AWM is, it's Angus! (Phonomac on most forums) I've been using a prototype in the system for weeks now and I am genuinely excited to get this built up into a proper preamp. Craig at Craigtone Audio is a legend. The layout is simply beautiful and JLCPCB have knocked production out the park.

They look serious! What for? Gonna build a "Mother Russia" version of the Phonostage. Going look for specifically Russian made items to fit in the PCB etc.

They all measure very closely to each other, which is a great sign of consistency. These are copper foil in oil capacitors, made from the Soviet days, in Russia. Bought on a whim, but partly inspired by finding some rather ridiculous Russian Valves recently. More on those later. At present, there is about 165v being run through them and they will stay on there until I build the CCCP inspired BB3, which could be some time lol

Cool, of course I now expect you to case it up on something that looks like a T34 tank when finished for the full Soviet effect!

Yeah, Ollie better be careful using these sorts of parts, else when he switches it on his Bigbottlov will be up and off to start trying to invade Germany 😳😳..
