Like I said, there *are* many hidden overheads to running a business in addition to the profiteering seen by many as excessive. One company I do have a growing respect for is John Michell Engineering. they've never ripped their buyers off and their decks were always beautifully turned out - the styling *had* to be properly finished otherwise it wouldn't work and a few months ago when I had to all but dismantle a Gyrodec to clean and re-set it up, I was staggered at the careful engineering all over and not just the shiny bits you see on the surface. I think the price has doubled in thirty years, but cannot be certain. Great eye candy and it sounds ok too with the right arm.
Way off topic, but it looks as if the Tecnoarm has very different tonearm exit cables to the standard Rega models. Mind you, it's a bloody high price for a me-too RB250 with some drilling and wanky bits added to make it look cool and foo wires fitted (runs for cover)...

Since there's a lot of extra work done (by Michell) to the raw Rega arm parts, I suppose I shouldn't be too hard on it. The current 200 tonearm has fixed bias and different bearings, so not sure about the current article unless Michell bought massive stocks of the 250 when it was replaced... I'll have another look.

They're a value lead company for sure. Just think what a new turntable design would do for their sales though.

Probably worth the money asa lifetime investment.

my box swapping days i found ic cables made very little difference..unless it was those energy sapping VDH ones..speaker cables make much more of a difference Yep, I agree. I have found a couple of cables that defied the rules and made a bigger improvement than I thought possible. First was NVA TIS mk1 which was actually a Goretex cable.Next one was Black Rhodium Polar Illusion. It looks utter Sh#t but it does have nice plugs and it sounds crisper than a crisp sandwich topped with crispy lettuce.

Do you have absolute incontrovertible proof the TIS was Goretex? The wires on the mk1 didn't have anything printed on it as I remember and you'd have had to dismantle the made up cable to see the twin coax cables inside - I don't remember there being any printing on the outer jackets. The Goretex rf cables (not RG316U) do seem very good quality and possibly very expensive and two of them do seem roughly the right diameter give or take (larger than the 316U). Only Tom might know now, as the slim drum that mine was made from had nothing printed on it that I could easily and obviously read - and it was hardly left out for my easy viewing The mk2 version uses different cables apparently and I have no knowledge at all on these. Interconnect sounding 'crisp?' definitely not my type then I have just found a top cable that Graham Nalty used to make in the days before Black Rhodium. It's a hughly unlikely thick titanium centre core (very inflexibke) and a single core return. It 'used' to sound really good and rrp was £200 odd I remember. The centre core couldn't be soldered so it was screwed into the RCA's and often lost connection. Sound? very clear, refined and not 'crisp' but maybe the higher inline resistance helped?
