I just bagged a Troika at a decent price. It's still apparently in working condition but I was wondering about a retip/Rebuid. Are Goldring the best people? It may be a while before I get round to it but any experiences or insight would be valued.

ESCo used to be the people of choice and they did a Troika repair for me once when I dislocated a brand new cantilever when a thumb slipped while fitting it. They did an invisible repair for me and the repaired cartridge sounded great. Massive waiting list though. Goldring did a lot of work for Linn I gather and maybe still do (I'm ignoring the ghastly Klyde cartridge). I think Andrew Popely had one of his Troika's done by Goldring, but it was a while ago and I can't remember the details now.

Thanks, Dave. Of course it might still be good, but I don't have an arm I can try it on due to the flying leads. It's a nice thing to own for now and it may stay that way until a suitable arm crosses my path. I loved the Asak, Asaka and Karma so the Trioka should be a given for me. Aro is also on my bucket list but it would have to be a bargain one. Unless I can find another decent arm with the right headshell terminations. Come to think of it, I may be able to fit it to the Revolver Super arm, just to judge its condition. I can't recall if it has headshell pins or not. I also have a PS-X9 coming soon which has a detachable headshell, so maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel. www.thevintageknob.org/sony-PS-X9.htmlDid you like the Troika, Dave?

Favourite at the time was the Koetdu Black which i remember being cheaper too.

My only experience is having my Lyra Helikon recently retipped by ESCO. They've done a bloody good job and it sounds fantastic.

That's great to hear. Personal recommendations are so good to have. I thought my Troika opportunities had passed me by, but that's what's great about hifi. You never know what's round the corner.

Agreed. My recent Epos ES11 purchase was an unexpected catch!

I would've loved a Koetsu or even a Kiseki. Second hand proces these days are very high. We dabbled with the SME 309 too. They made a special headshell for the Troika and it was excellent, but the Linnies ignored it sadly.
The Kiseki Purpleheart was a bit 'rougher' than the Troika I recall, but the dearer ones were superb - Agat Ruby and Lapis Lazuli. I sold the former and heard theatter at Jimmy's place when he had it for review. Mad money even then.

It's a helluva cartridge in the right arm.
