This pretty much appeals to me.
Just a quick little example. I sometimes refuse to own any integrated amp, with LCD display, digital volume, built in DAC etc. Couldn't care how great it sounds. Yes sure, I'm a closed minded idiot and set in my ways. So there, lol.
Always favoured having a simple high quality old school amplifier. With a simple on/off button and volume/input selector pot etc. Whether its class A, AB, C, D, T, whatever is coming next....I can't keep up!!
What about you guys?

Not sure. Remote control is damned addictive but my once hippy-hair-shirt Crown gear is all manually operated and now suffering old age symptoms (how long should gear run for anyway?) after 45 years as decent quality custom pots and so on weren't around so much in the 70's outside of Japan.
I worried about my last AVI S2000MP+P preamp having a chip to control it all (the thing is scrap if it fails as no external controls), but chips like this supplied by a proper supply which AVI were masters at, don't usually go down and AVI should have kept half a dozen back 'just in case' but didn't.
Shane, you've had loads of amps and many are just as you describe above - simple and effective at the prime job in hand. There's a cheapish Onkyo now that offers power and simplicity, but no idea if it's any different to the almost vintage Denon I believe you have - I've grown to like much of Denon's gear more and more in recent years, as their stuff seems straight down the line with little bullshit in what they do...

My Denon dates back to 2009/10 era. Not vintage, but very basic average AB design. Plus, they're not made in Japan, probably somewhere in China. The reliability is decent and long lasting. I can happily tolerate a remote, lol. S.

I dont care for displays, led's, power switches, volume controls or selector switches. Thats why i dont have any Hell, i have even got rid of as many sockets as possible (iec, phono, dc power). If i could i would hardwire all connections. I think that makes me a hardcore traditionalist.

Wow something me and Shane actually agree on! I never use tone controls or any of that stuff don't know why people think they are necessary. Not even bothered about a remote..
I don't even need more than one input these days.
I remember a mate's brother built himself an integrated amp years ago when there was hardly anyone doing DIY electronics. He just used CD so only one input and just a volume knob on the front panel, nothing else. You had to switch it on and off at the wall. It sounded excellent but he did spend a bomb on the parts.

Lots of the things Shane cites would make me reject a product too. I do like blue LEDs and VU meters though. Never been a fan of remote amps though, apart from the LK1

Taking this further, why not get rid of the hifi and play our own music. I would be fine as long as my family likes drum solo's

I was hacking at the guitar earlier on. I don't seem to have improved at all in 35 years.

I was hacking at the guitar earlier on. I don't seem to have improved at all in 35 years. You have got to put the hours in. People talk about talented musicians who have a natural flair for it but what they dont mention is the hours and hours of ball breaking practice they have put in.

You say that but then there are people like my brother who 'borrowed' my guitar for an afternoon and could play like Hendrix by bedtime. I'm not really exaggerating much there either. Never touched a guitar before although he could already play piano and violin to a high standard.

Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.
I've been playing for 23 years although I'm no longer trying to improve. I just enjoy playing.

Talent gets you so far and (I think) determines how far you can get but in between is hard work. The hard work gives consistency and stamina, both physical and mental

Started off playing a one string ukulele. Should’ve stuck to it.

Think he progressed somewhat.
Brought over here and managed by a Geordie, no less; Chas Chandler; The Animals' bass player. Helped conceive what was the Metro Arena as well,

Only my dac has remote or display and that logic board and supply are totally isolated from other circuits.
I like keep it simple.
