I'm used to making stuff. Ideally one would get it right first time round, but that never happens. So, most stuff sits uncased for a good number of months. My record is my Mod86p bridged amps, they went through two psu arrangements and lived as a rats nest for almost two years before finally being chased up.
So visually I can put up with all manner of sins during development, but finished gear has to be bang tidy.

I must say I regard many suspended subchassis decks as hair shirt and totally unacceptable. Anything that wobbles all over like an LP12 is ludicrous, even more so when you have to fork out to get the thing set up regularly. IMO suspended decks always sound worse anyway. I have owned several Thorens turntables and never experienced any bother setting them up and they stayed set up too.

Leave the SS amp on for a couple of weeks... I used to leave my Linn LK100 on all the time, now it needs re-capping Lifetime expectancy for an electrolytic can be 7000 hours or less (greater as well). That equates to just over 10 months of being constantly powered.

Products without an on/off switch! Trichord Dino for instance. Utterly stupid design flaw. I think the designer maybe giving you a hint. yeah, that he didn't want the added hassle and cost of fitting an on/off switch. Just tell the punters it sounds better left on all the time, they'll believe it. They want to believe it.

This is why I like both sides of the story to be told on hi-fi forums. At least people can see that there is differing opinion on subjects like this and then make their own decision, rather than be left thinking something is gospel and that everyone agrees.

I enjoyed hearing from Jez about this because he gave first hand info about the number of repairs he’s done due to folk leaving amps on.

I got some Rubycon ones that are rated at 12,000 hours for me Audioromy amp. Values can be as low as low as 1,000 - 2,000 hours for their rated temperature, which will be typically 85° or 105°. Obviously if the temperature never gets close to what they're rated for they can be expected to last for longer.

These lifetimes are at the rated temperature. Many will not be anywhere near that especially if at idle for long periods and will last a lot longer.

That'll be why my wee Rotel amp hasn't died despite being left on for years....
