Westie, I see you are planning to make some speaker cable from Colin's recipe. Any chance you'd go halves on the wire? It sounds like you might only need half a reel if you are only making one set. I would be interested in the other half if it suits you.
I will try and get some wire to DIY an "anti-cable" interconnect and I wil be happy to make a length up for you if you like?
I am using Linn K20 speaker cable and I enjoy it. I have always wanted to try Colin's cables but the best ones are just too expensive for me. This seems like a way to get a bargain and have a bit of fun learning. I use Rega Couple mk1 as an interconnect. If a DIY cable beats that, I will be very happy.

For anyone looking in and wondering what I'm talking about, the wire Colin recommend is this: powermagnetics.co.uk/pace-components/triple-insulated-wire/tex-elz-wire/tex-elz-7x0-30mm-furukawa-triple-insulated-wireYou can see a pic of how it's used in Colin's cable over on TAS. I didn't want to pinch a copy of the pic to put here. It looks like using 3 runs per connector, twisted together and spaced out is a decent recipe. Westie planned on buying braided sleeving and stitching it to create two narrow, spaced pockets for the wire. I like that idea! There might be a need to insert something down the middle to stop the braid from sagging but that would depend on the braid stiffness and the weight of the wire.has anybody any ideas for a flat and flexible material in long lengths, about 1" wide? |

Can I let you know, Andy? It will be a few weeks before I can indulge and i wanted to keep all options open. I plan to just use 3 per side but until I see it and try it, I can't be sure. I will happily let you try my finished cable though, whatever I do.
I would be up for some Anti Cable DIY fun though. Again it will be a few weeks before I am free. I hope that's ok?

I'm certainly planing to do a lot more DIY in future, but my electronics limitations will mean it's limited to modding speakers and turntables and playing about making cables.
