Hi,
Just discovered this place thanks to Oliver AKA @bigman80
I'm 48 and been obsessed with music from an early age, the obsession with Hi-Fi gear started in my late teens when I could afford it.
My first ‘’proper ‘’ set-up was a NAD CD player, amp and speakers plus a Rega Plannar 2 and Creed Phono Stage. A few years later I moved onto a full LINN system, including a LP12. 20 odd years later and I (eventually) saw the error of my ways. I sold everything LINN earlier this year and bought a Naim streamer and Exposure 3010S2D integrated amp. I replaced the LP12 for a Well Tempered Versalex (Trilogy 906 Phono Stage) and I’m extremely happy with the move. The only things remaining from my old system was the Roksan TR-5 speakers.
The last piece of the puzzle was cables. I’d tried various cables from the usual suspects over the years and lived with the LINN Silvers and Chord Signature speaker cables for number of years. After reading the positive reviews of the Spotfire interconnects I put my name down to have one on loan. A couple of days later my impatience got the better of me and I went straight ahead and bought one…12 months later I’ve replaced everything with SPOTFIRE cables. I’ve been extremely impressed with them and the performance has got better the more Spotfire leads I’ve added.
Which brings us up to my latest Hi-Fi ‘’journey’’, DIY Audio.
Oliver (AKA Bigman80/AKA ‘Mr Spotfire’) invited me over to his house a few weeks back to listen to his own Bigbottle Phono Stage. I was impressed and caught the DIY bug. I’m yet to build anything but thanks to Oliver with his enthusiasm and generosity it won’t be long.
Music wise. I started off as a Rocker. My first gig was (the mighty) Status Quo at the NEC 1982 (released in the Blue tin). A couple of years later I was more of an ‘Indie Boy’. Some of my favourite bands are Cocteau Twins, Radiohead, The Smiths (we won’t mention Morrissey), Joy Division, New Order, Pixies, The Stone Roses, Talk Talk and Echo and the Bunnymen. I still play them all on a regular basis but I do listen to modern stuff too. I do like some Classical and Jazz but my knowledge is limited. Oh and I love Johnny Marr. Laffin!
BTW My username is taken from an album by a doom mental band called Electric Wizard.
I think that will do for starters.
Cheers
Rob
