Has anybody heard these? They are a bit too expensive for me right now, and used ones still sell for high prices, but I can always hope for a bargain. The baby ones wouldn't interest me but I would be interested to hear about any of the others.

I had a pair of Obelisks when I upgraded from Epos 14's. I was using Naim 135's and they occasionally shut down, but did prefer them to Dynavectors. I really wish I had tried a different amp, but it was before I ever went on the internet with more knowledge available. Anyway, I loved their presentation, and would still be using them, but they had to be left behind when I returned to the uk.

I'd love to try some Obelisks. But I'll most likely would have to invest on a more competent amp.

Their models naturally interest me, due to their heavily sloped baffles and semi omni leanings. Their prices are very steep but they are well put together when you see the internals,
I'm well capable of making angled cabinets. If I was to buy it would have to be a 2nd hand bargain, or a DIY "homage"moth my own twists.

We had some tiny Compass models in stock twenty years ago, but I preferred to listen to the bass-mid drivers full on, standing over them... I just don't get on with Omni's and even 'Briks could irritate of they didn't like the room much.

I know they are well made, but the little Compasses are £5k these days. The main spend is the cabinets and I reckon you could probably get them made by a joiner for £200-250. Better still, buy some decent tools and learn yourself.,
Lots of drivers out there that would let you make your own design and adjust exactly to taste. The fun has to be worth the money IMO

Compasses are HOW MUCH? ? Oh FFS. Things haven't tripled in price in twenty years SURELY? Same as effin' Dynavector. The 10X used to cost the same as the DL110 and when the top plate was changed, signifying a V monika, it was £250 when the DL110 was available widely for £79 even ten years or so ago! I appreciate currency changes, but the 10XV is now £499 and the DL110 nigh on £200 Someone's having an effin' laugh at the UK's expense and I maintain it's the lucrative snob-led far eastern market driving prices of audio gear, where price tags and perceived status mean everything.

I got a shock too. I had hoped they weren't north of 2k because that would be too much. I almost choked when I saw £4995. The drivers look nothing special and although the cabinet is well made, it's pretty small. Even getting a joiner to do the cabinets, I reckon I could clone them for und £500. But then I may as well clone one of the bigger ones BYw you're sad right about Dynavector. Yet nobody seems to have noticed and they act like they have always been at that price point. I seem to recall the Karat 17D2 being about £239 and it wasn't a particularly attractive buy at that price AFAIC.

I hadn't seen prices in a long time. This will probably drive up used prices too. Still, I can always look for a bargain

You don't see many of those but Imseem to remember Westie having one of their best ones?

Yes I had a Bedini 100/100 class A amp that had been upgraded to 802 status..I imported it from the USA and ran it with a large stepdown. I sold it to PFM regular, Rana. I'm notbsurebifbhes a Shahinian user or not. I think he may have been at the time.

I heard a pair of compasses back in about '95 at Sound Advice in Loughborough. My mates and I spent so long (but not much money) in there we got to know the owner (Derek), who invited us for chips and an evening in the 'expensive' room.... That had a pair of Diapasons driven by a Dynavector Hexfet power amp and every bit of Naim front end going. It sounded immense. Derek didn't do foo music so it was Oasis, the Police and whatever we brought with us. The Diapasons made Wonderwall sound f-ing Wonderfull. But they were (I think) £15K then so god knows what they would cost now. Definitely a DIY challenge though - 18 drivers angled to a single point in the cabinet (or something like that)....
They all seem to need beefy amps though - lots and lots of current. I took my HH S500D to a bake off (Geoff Oldius for those that know him) and tried it on his Obelisks. We had it nearly full power (2 x 180W into 8 ohms) and the speakers still wanted more. Geoffs big Nakamichi amp was much more up to the task....
