......And what would you buy?
Me? I’d probably buy another Campion and I’d seek out another pair of Spica Angelus. I’d probs buy a nice tonearm and cartridge too. Maybe a vintage deck if I don’t get a motor r sorted for the TransRotor.
If I couldn’t get some Angelus, I’d probably try some La Scalas. Might even do that anyway.
I’d probably spend less than 5k on hifi. No need to spend more.
I’d likely just stick the rest in a bank.

You know, if I came into that kind of money, I'd want a newer car and then I'd get a Sh#t hot stereo in it (or a car with a half decent standard one as many VW group cars had once if not now). As for the domestic stuff, I honestly don't know. I'd shift the Harbeths pronto to someone with a larger room to place them in (may still do that anyway) to better exploit their charms and try to find a nice condition DC300A mk1.5 (satin front with clipping lights). No idea what speakers I'd like to use though. Built-in active is best really, but it limits you somewhat and as I'm no longer able to play with gear in the store.....

What got me thinking about this thread was the price of kit today. You won’t get a full system for 50k with the sort of build that was common back in the day. I’d rather spend £5k on 80s kit than 50k on brand new.

£50K? I'd retire. Probably not spend any of it on hi-fi.

Plus I'd have all day every day free to make a living on the black.

Maybe look at a few turntables, but I would enjoy the money in other ways.

£51k.
We all know that unless you spend more than you can afford then it doesn't really count...

I'd box up all my projects, custom panels, posh like. And rebuild my Benz LP.

Maybe £5k. I'd give the rest away. What a waste! I'd give it away to my daughters. They need £22,500 far more than I need £50,000.

Daughters? They'll just spend it on shoes and handbags. I stand by my original statement.

I would spend it on drums and cymbals, some LP's, beer and the rest to pay the mortgage off. Cash ofc.
