What would you get? Well for starters I’d struggle with CD as not many are made.
I’d probbaly opt for a Shanling Tempo EC1b and go from there,
I’d have an easier time with an amp. I’d buy a Breeze Audio TPA3116 amp because I reckon it would see off anything up to 30 times it’s price,
I’d spend most on speakers. A nice shiny new pair of Duevel Planets,
A bit of a mullet system with e very skinny waist, but I reckon it would make great music and look extremely neat. What would you go for?
My kit would cost less than £1200. No restrictions on what “on a budget” actually means, soadapt it to your now lifestyle and circumstances.

I'd probably go for a CD based system mainly of used equipment and keep it simple.
Meridian 506 20 bit or 24 bit CD player for use mainly as a transport, feeding a Monarchy Audio M22B DAC into a TPA3116 amp, driving a pair of Tannoy Eaton speakers. All gear I'm familiar with and like. I might tack a deck on for the occasional bit of record playing.

Assuming I'd had a bang on the head and had to buy new - I'd get a Cambridge CD player, maybe spend £300. A set of Nick Gorham's monoblocks (£6K I think but not heard anything new that can touch them at a lower price) and a DCB1 (say £400 built). Speakers is a tough one. Properly good speakers cost a bomb new. Tannoy Arden Legacy I think, might be able to get them for £6.5K.
So just over £13K - I'd be on bread and water for a while though. But that's what it would take to get to a level I have now. (Or when I get the Krell back anyway).
If I decided not to spend that much I would skimp a bit on the speakers, not the amps. No idea what I'd go for. Who does big, cheap, speakers that are not complete tat?

Oh yeah not a bad call. I have heard their big one, looks like a JBL. Sounds a bit like one too I think but was hard to tell due to EAR amplification being used. Think they are about a grand. Very good value for brand new.

I couldn't bring myself to spend what most new kit retails for, so I'd probably go for a R-Pi based streaming front and and active speakers - Kralk, Alesis or similar as pro gear gives more for your money. I'd happily re-buy my current setup if second hand gear is allowed.

Haven't got a clue is the honest answer. Most of your system is new anyway isn't it?
