I use a pair of Vintage Ross 'RE-272'. The best Headphones ive ever had. Two important aspects though apart from not buying the lower models. 1. Change the original Ear pads for thicker velour ones. The originals will hurt your ears 2. Change the cable as it is very stiff & heavy. I fitted The German Sommer 'SC-ONYX 2025 Mk.2' cable. Refit the original Jack plug.. You must be very very careful doing this as you need to retain the strain relief's that fit into the headsets. |

Upstairs: Chord Hugo and HiFiMan HE6 headphones.

Never heard the Solo Untra Linear. Have you compared it to other amps before settling with it?

I don't like dull boomy headphones and even top sennheisers sounded bland to me last I tried them (possibly 'cos the headphone amp wasn't able to drive them properly), so i stick with my HD25SP's. Too rough and ready for your cultured ears no doubt and not as 'bling' as the proper version with double head-clamp bands - cough, but I can live with the rawness and get straight to the heart and soul of the music. Oh, and they're driven directly from an amp speaker output (Crown D-60 which is silent doing so and was used in studios that way back then to deafen recording/mixing engineers), so no 500k padding resistor inline to wreck output impedance.

I like the physical aspect of music and you don't get that at all with 'phones. I won't bother with small speakers for the same reason.
