You don't need it Does the Campion do loud fairly well? S. I'm not sure of that one tbh. I was just talking to my wife about this yesterday. The thing about the Campion/Byron combo is that it sounds great at lower levels and for once I don't feel a need to turbo charge the music. When you turn it up it doesn't sound "louder" either. It's more like the better valve amps I have had in that respect and likely better than any of them at this too. If you want a it more punch, the Alabaster might be a beter bet, although I haven't heard one yet. I can imagine the Campion being amazing with something efficient like Snell Js or Es. For an amp I wasn't that fussed about at first, it continues to surprise me.,

I very much like the Alabaster, but it looks very ordinary to me. Adding extra bling to sort the visuals better would double the cost I fear.
One amp maker needing a greater presence in my opinion.

I love minimalism, so I really adore the design, same as my Campion. it looks like whatever the new amp is, will follow the 3 knob minimalist look. I really interested because I never buy new. I get rid of things too easily. However the odd things I did buy new have left me with special memories and also great regrets from selling. I have enough love for the brand to buy new again as long as it's not £2.5k upwards. I couldn't justify that when I can have an Orton for £800 used. You're right about the low profile. If it hadn't been for Art K and then Gromit's threads I wouldn't have known about them.

Would be nice to have Gromit's (Richard) presence on here. Love reading his Hi-Fi postings.
The Campion thought is still swimming around in my mind. Andrew, is the Campion fussy with speaker partnering?

I haven’t found it to be fussy at all. The only limitation I could see is inefficient speakers in a big room, if you’re expecting high SPLs. But then it sounds good at any level and I don’t feel, the need to listen loud with it. The Campion definitely sounds more musical when it’s warm, but it’s never hard even from stone cold. It doesn’t have the clout of big Exposure or Naim amps, but it has more clarity and sweetness without losing anything to them in PRaT.
Gromit would be great for the forum. I’ve sold him a couple of bits and almost got his Campion. Someone just got there ahead of me. I’d like a second one at some point, but owners rarely sell them.

Big Naim amps have no clout at all really, just an over-punchy mid bass giving that 'pr@t' effect. REAL power amps just get louder and louder and louder in my experience until you find you have to shout to be heard above the music I despair of low powered domestic amps that ring and harden up when pushed. At least my geriatric 40WPC Crown D-60 can use ALL it's power until it finally farts when pushed into clipping...

I’d say the fact they can drive things like early Saras is enough to qualify them as having clout AFAIC. Not many amps can cope with low impedance reactive loads. Of course some amps can do it even better, but remember I’m talking comparatively here. A Campion would flat out fail into something difficult to drive. Choose an easy load and then it won’t matter.
