Had this kit for quite a while, just not had the time up to now to get this done. Have finally made a start though. I'm building these with a few mods, first of which are some very high quality regulated filament supplies- one for each 300b so eight in total, four in each monoblock. These are not part of the standard kit so I need to find room for them. I've heard a similarly modified pair at a previous Owston which was easily the best amp I've heard so far, so if this kit gets anywhere near that I'll be a happy chappie. First job is the filament supplies, got all the components laid out- Getting there- All done- Made a start on populating the chassis with tag strips etc- That's as far as I've got for now, will update the thread as I progress.

Looks a great project Ali. I'll be interested in watching your progress! (is that a Nixie clock by the window?)

Cheers Geoff, yes it's a Nixie, I built it from a kit a few years ago.

What's the deal with the little door?

That's where the pixies come in to sprinkle fairy dust over the amps.

It already looks fascinating. I can’t wait to see it finished.

Me too. Might be awhile though, waiting for HT delay boards to come- another mod of my own, also need to order bespoke transformers for the filament supplies.

Probably gonna be your last amplifier so I’m sure it will be worth the wait. Looking forward to more pics

A bit more progress. Fitted the HT delay board from K&K Audio- this is not part of the supplied kit, but it will give the 300b's an easier life- eight 300b's are not cheap! Board built up- Installed into chassis- Heater wiring to the front end valves - these will be supplied from a winding on the toroids I'm having made- More progress- Getting there with the front end-

The daunting thing for me is no understanding of electronics and n desire to learn. I’d be building anything like a painting by numbers and hoping for the best.Risky with any electronics let alone an OTl

Yeah, I wouldn’t start with an OTL lol.

Yeah, I wouldn’t start with an OTL lol. Quite right. Start with something simple, a Devialet clone should do.

Pretty much done now, or at least as far as I can go until I get the toroids Amethyst are making for me, then it's just a case of wiring up the filament supplies and Bob's yer mother's brother. Four filament supplies added, again not part of the original kit, but these will make a significant improvement to SQ-

I believe there's a cream you can get for the torroids.
Not exactly a cheap encounter, is it? I do hope it will be more than a brief one for you.
Can you give any details about the filiment power supply? Thanks.

There's a lot of work on display there. I know Firebottle's big OTL was one of the best power amps I've ever heard so in theory at least these should sound stunning.

Badoom! I'm here all week.. :-)
No not cheap at all lol, but I already have a Mini-Beast so know I like the OTL sound, and I've heard a tricked-out DIY version of the Pinnacle at a previous Owston which uses the same filament supplies, and in most ways that was the best amp I've ever heard. Just hoping mine gets somewhere near that.
Filament supplies are a collaboration between Andrew Lehane and Nick Gorham on Audio-Talk. Contact AndrewL on there if you want to buy any. Superb performance, measure better than any others available commercially.

Thanks. Will have a look. Always been intrigued by OTL valve amps. Would have to use a more affordable valve, though, like the FU13, 6C33 or 805. The 805 has appeared in recent designs by Line Magnetic and Audioromy. I like the look of it.

Steve Cresswell has built one using a 13E1 valve, be worth looking in to that, or Transcendent Sound do the Evermore amp, which uses EL34, 6550, KT 77 etc.

Yes will bring them along. There’s an Owston 1/2 June if you fancy it, will be taking them there.
