As promised, I have built up this cheeky preamp whilst I await deliveries of cable!!! Sounds great for under £30! 12 sided diceIt not pretty but it's going to love in the garage system so it doesn't have to be.

I hadn't either so when I saw it all for £10 delivered, it was a no brainer. Its tidy "enough" for the moment. I'd like tighter twists on the wires so will do that at some point and get a volume know that fits 😂😂 Sounds really decent in the main system, so much so, I've left it in for a couple of hours. It doesn't have the huge soundstage of the DCB1 with Khozmo but it's very acceptable. Id been told by a couple of folks that the SPOTFIRE didn't play very well with passives but I'm not getting that here, sounds good.

That pcb certainly makes life easier 👍. (It’s a lot tidier than mine 😔)

And after all the rude things you said about ALPS pots.

And after all the rude things you said about ALPS pots. Absolutely Geoff and I stand by what I said WHEN people say an Alps Blue is all you need. Its just not! There are levels in this game and the DCB1 is ahead, easily but for £10, for a second system or back up, it'll do a job. Happy with it and yes, it's better than I remember but the entire system has come a long way since then so I suspect that has a lot to do with it.

I'm still using my "4 resistors in a box" . Potential divider soldered in before the output of my cdp. Changing volume is no problem, a quick process of desoldering and soldering a different value of resistor in. So simple even my kids can do it.
Maybe i will upgrade from the welwyn rc55y i have in there now to something more exotic.

The KISS principal, looks nice to me. It actually sounds better than a couple of more expensive units I've tried. Not necessarily more transparent but more enjoyable. I'm eating my words on this Alps blue 😂😂

Welwyn rc55y come in some odd values. You may have to experiment with the second value . When i removed the output stage from my cdp i had to increase it a little (used to have 604R)
