if you've ever heard a recording with no compression then you'll know why they apply compression.
Applying a shitload of compression so it sounds punchy on the radio or thorough Sh#t headphones is a bad thing, no argument, but if that's the way they've done it then that's what you've got.
I'm not concerned with what they did in the studio, that's up to them. Anything they did to the recording, even deliberately making it sound Sh#t, is artistically valid. I'm only interested in replay. Recording and replay have nothing in common.
