since readin a few guys experiances with stepped attenuators i thought id try one.
as expected i was charged £41 by customs/parcelforce after work i wired it in, first what the goldpoint has replaced,a standard run of the mill alps blue potentiometer. and here's the goldpoint v24. quality made. all wired in and fitted, very easy even for me! how does it sound? well no earth shattering difference, the sound seems clearer to me,do these settle in? the feel of adjusting the volume though is very nice,a feeling of precision,24 steps is plenty too. total cost was $200 and £41 customs charge.

I never noticed any change in them with use, just added clarity and spot on channel balance straight from the off. The perfect channel matching alone is worth the price of entry for me.
As a side note my Khozmo has gone tits up again jumping volume every eight steps as it switches a major relay. It's heading back with an ultimatum this time.

This is just one of my foibles but I could never tolerate a stepped attenuator. I don’t like the feel and it’s really odd having to choose between set volume levels.
Even if the sound improved they are a compromise I couldn’t live with. I had a Khozmo at one stage. Nice looker.

I went from an Alps blue (shunted and non-shunted) to a DACT and it was a noticeable improvement in a passive (pot in a box) pre. I also tried it in front of my old Rotel integrated (put the rotel to full volume and used the passive pre between source and Rotel) and it was noticeably more detailed with a better soundstage

Just my personal experience here:
I have had three Khozmo's and felt they opened up after a fair few hours but i know others don't believe in burn in.
The differences will creep up on you like when you catch a bit of detail you never heard before or heard "as" clearly.
I went from Alps BLue to Slagle AVC and that was a good step forward. Looks a tidy unit and i agree with Simon, the channel balance is a great bonus. Looks like you've done a tidy job fitting it too!

Have you just had a bad one or is it a special version? I've had three and never had a problem. Seems to be beyond acceptable now. Get Arek to send a replacement and then return the other so you know you aren't getting the same one back. It may be worth an ask.

Mine must be a specially Sh#t one.
I expect a swap this time round, if the fault returns after a repair then all the relays are failing one by one - surely? I'd expect the temp profile on their flow machine was borked.

Looks like a dud has slipped through the net.

After much dicking about I finally sent off my attenuator, he's sending me back the shunt relay version instead. That's a result, couldn't ask for better service from Arek at Khozmo. Great sounding product that he backs up 100%

Hopefully this time you'll be sorted
