Wouldn't know.... Never heard a Ken Ishiwata Marantz 63 - neither has anyone else. He did inspire the Marantz MK II 63, though. A somewhat different player.

I know this is thread drifting check these out. A friend who is a collector has a mint pair of the SB-AFP 10's in his show room I have heard them but the conditions were just not right when his sound room is finished it will be very interesting to hear them again, beautifully built and unique. This is the chap and his business and or obsession, and these are the speakers a great guy always lets me play with his many toys. Technics SB-AFP10 | Audio Exchange

Who cares about the colour we are not discussing colour. At least not with me mate, for where I come from it is a very sensitive subject, so no mentions about colour please.

Can we see a piccie of your 1300s please mister? (We will have to do something about the 'stateless' SLP1200). Externally, the 1300 just looks exactly the same as the 1200. On the back there's the RCAs, XLRs and co-axial and optical (I think) digital outputs. The last time I looked there was a bloke on YouTube showing a pair he had. Typical blokey video.

So is it meant to be better than the 1200 or was it just one of those updates to create new interest? I’ve never heard of it

Found a video but not of the bloke with two of them
The Germans do seem to like them but then it is the Tiger Tank of CD players.

The 1200 variants and 1000, basically a 1200B in standard chassis, all used 2 PCM54 DACs. The 1300 uses 4 pcm84 DACs in dual differential mode. Don't know if it was their first model to use 4 DACs. Other models lower down like the 377 or whatever also use 4 DACs, but I don't know what the time-frame for it's introduction might have been. Sometimes a feature appears in a top model and later gets filtered down the line.

Thanks for the link, Mr L. The description of the planar panels was interesting. I think Yamaha came up with the idea originally with their NS-20s from the original Natural Sound series, which I think dates from 1969. Later, Sony, adopted the idea for use with conventional drivers with their APM (Acoustic Piston Motion) series. I have a pair, but yet to hear them. And a review of the Technics SL-P1300: www.hifi-classic.net/review/technics-sl-p1300-234.html

Sad to hear of the death of Shane Rimmer at 89. Probably best known for the voice of Scott Tracy.

Audioromy 838A Thought I'd have a look inside this before thinking about giving it a try. When I did found, found a couple of wires from the capacitors were adrift. Not too bothered as I intend to do the Lampizator mods on it. Think I'll try some Kiwame resistors. Thought this might come in handy for someone: Found out only on Friday that Leon R had died at the end of May at the age of 69. Never heard it mentioned anywhere: Good capture of hall acoustics: Sounds more like Hank than Hank does. Pity the recordist didn't stay put:

Er... It's in bits at the moment. Hope I can put it back together again.
Some of the wiring is poor and the layout could be better.

No going back now I suppose. Odd value bypass capacitors on the supply line to the input & driver valves. One channel has a red Wima .22uF and the other a yellow .15uF. Coupling caps appear to be French Solen Polypropylene ones. Dismantled the cage and cleaned it with Duraglit. It's a nicely-made simply-designed item. Cleaned the rest of the chassis as well. Waiting for parts.
