Went with a friend on Saturday to buy an amp for his home theater. The gent who was selling the amp had a pile of various bits of kit he wanted to sell. In the pile was a mint Samsung CDP, model No. CD-44 R it looked well made was heavy and had a very substantial tray and a linear skating loading system. It was going for peanuts so I brought it home. It performs surprisingly well, no giant killer but as good as any decent budget CDP. It sounds exactly the same as my JVC XLZ 441 which was one of the better budget players in its day. It is considerably heavier than the JVC and does not slide off the shelf when you touch it like the JVC. It loads very quietly, runs silent and the tray looks like it comes out of some high end player. Seems to date from 1991 I remember Samsung made some pretty tasty high end kit in the 90's when they started to take on the Japanese.

I assume the JVC XL-Z441 is the partnering CD player to the AX-A441 amplifier which I own. I've not seen the CD unit, but the amp is rather decent.

I would say yes the amp and the CDP both date to 1991.

Probably a serious attempt at repositions the brand by building real quality.
