I currently have a Graham Slee Solo Ultra linear headphone amp (that I bought years ago). This drives either my Sennheiser HD540 Référence II or HD650 headphones. I am relatively happy with them, but I would quite like something with a bit more slam/drive to them.
Any suggestions? These will compliment the Sennheiser phones, as I quite like to switch. the HD540 when I want something uncoloured, the HD650 when I want a bit more warmth. The next ones need to be better. The sky is not the limit as far as price is concerned.
The HD650 have a Silver Dragon V2 headphone cable, so perform better than standard.

I reckon it's as much to do with comfort as well as purely 'sonics,' so if you can find a way to try some, i'd suggest that.
Are mid price Grado's still regarded as good? I liked the £320-ish model they do/did around a year ago and found them clear, (musically) characterful - not at all safe and bland - and quite comfortable as well. I used to find top Beyers a bit sparkly up top (and here's me using HD25SP's, so what do I know), but current issue models may be different now.
Not sure if it may help, but the Ken Rockwell site might be of interest - possibly...

I don’t like the comfort aspects of Grado.
Any Meze 99 classic owners here?

I was thinking of buying new through Amazon. If I don’t like them then they can go back and I don’t lose a cent.

I didn’t know that. Does that apply to Amazon purchases in general? I think I’ve only bought Kindle books so I am clueless where Amazon is concerned.

I am not 100% sure. I have a Prime account so the benefits are better.
I am tempted between the Shure SRH1540 or the Meze Classic 99. I just wish I could find a nice pair of Oppo PM-3.

What about Planar headphones? Are they worth trying?

Yes they are. I've got a pair of Audeze cans. Not the LCD 2's cause they don't have the boogie factor apparently. I have the LCD 3's and they're the best cans I've heard. There are cheeper planer magnetic cans oot there though. Check em all out here...... www.highendheadphones.co.uk/audeze

I heard two models above the 325 - Reference summatorother (here I go again).. I thought some of 'it' was missing, whatever 'it' is that makes me want to listen for long periods. The 325's had a nice 'balance' if vices and virtues. Remember, I listen to 'DJ' HD25SP's and 'refined' is something that could never be said about these...

It has been suggested on another forum that the HiFiMan Sundara May hit the spot? Has anybody here tried them?

I like the look of them, but they may be too much of a sideways step from the HD650.

I have ordered a set of the HiFiman Sundara from Amazon. If I don’t like them, they can be sent back easy enough.

The Sundaras arrived today. They sound great out of the box, so I am happy. I will let them run in a bit before any “critical” listening.

They would form a better deal if the cups were the other way round.
