Hi all,
I'm currently awaiting our very own Mr Kipling to finish his work on Macca's SL1000cdp, which will then hopefully be posted to me for a home demo before I decide to buy it or not.
Just wondered if any of you fine folk have any experience of one.
I did hear Macca's at the Penkridge bakeoff and was impressed enough to continue my interest.
There's a decent looking Cyrus CDP in the classifieds at AoS. What's the concencious? Cyrus or Techy?

Worth checking availability of spares. Have you thought about streaming?

I haven't thought about streaming.
A simple RPI rig seemed a bit too complicated to setup. What do you use?

I haven't thought about streaming. A simple RPI rig seemed a bit too complicated to setup. What do you use? A Vortexbox appliance as storage / server and a Sonore MicroRendu. Metrum dac. Control it all with phone app. You'd be up and running from scratch in 20 mins max.

I've heard of nine if that 😂
Ok, I'll have a look into it. Ideally, tracks would be on a HDD rather than over the internet as I haven't got my router anywhere near the HiFi.
You've piqued my interest, thank Paul.

I run a 8 metre ethernet cable - hidden behind the skirting board - from my router to the Rendu. TTFN

I've also read about Cyrus having reliability problems, although do you believe everything you read on the internet. More importantly I've never heard any Cyrus kit that I have liked. Do you have a dac Oli? If not good ones can be purchased cheaply so savvypaul's suggestion of streaming, could be a good one, and can be upgraded over time.

I have little experience of Cyrus CD players but a mate who ususllay likes similar things really loves the CD8s (hope that’s right). His transport has just gone down though.

Well that's sold that for the Cyrus. Don't like buying twice.
No DAC.

Cyrus my ass. How you getting on with that Sony 791E?

The bass took on a better dimension. I have a shed load of Raspberry Pi on the way to me to try. I want to see how the techy compares to modern streaming options. I just need the bloody techie!

It's a good player that, I used it for ten years, preferred it to the top of the line Cambridge Audio 840C which I also had. Used to keep a ten kilo weight on top of it, swore it made a difference (it didn't really). The SLP1200 (particularly the one you are getting) is in a different league though. You'll easily hear it.

Has Mr Kipling got any closer to sorting the Trchnics? No more ince pies to bake now that Xmas is over, so he’s got no excuses! The news is, he is looking at improving the DAC power supply in it. The RCA sockets have arrived but aren't fitted yet. Most things going to a halt over the Christmas period as being a master purveyor of fine pies, he must have e been very busy. Hopefully soon, I will have it here for a listen.
