Just got a PL12D for silly money from a charity shop. It was cheap as they are not allowed to sell electrical items to the public.
In it's original box and it looks like it hasn't been used for many a year as the belt looks rather crusty. Fitted with a Shure M75 EJ II cartridge which probably needs a new stylus.
Have plumbed it into my system and fired it up and despite the belt looking knackered the speed is spot on. Got a weird hum that appears with each platter revolution for a second or two and never heard that effect before, so that will be fun tracking that issue down.

Nice. Everybody should have one of these to play around with. Check the transit screws and that the motor is free on its mounts. The Shure is not the last word in detail or openness, but it works. The PL-12D will actually cope perfectly well with a half decent MC cart.

I found the problem Geoff, the little red transit screws were still in place untouched. Maybe that's why it went back into it's box LOL. A good case for RTFM - read the ferkin manual

QWhat a great score. They are really good sounding decks.

I had bought a brand new one back in the mid 70s and I had forgotten how good one could sound, so this is going to be a keeper for a while anyway. Currently spinning Neil Diamond's Hot August Night on it and it is very enjoyable I must admit.

I admire the honest simplicity of the things. No glitz, bling or gizmos, just the minimum to do the job right and really well engineered.
A drop of oil on the main bearing and motor and a new belt every five years is all they ever need. They just go on forever.

I certainly don't miss all the clicks and pops that goes with spinning vinyl.

I don't get any worth mentioning.

I think they are “lookers” too. The proportions are really nice and the logo rightbinnthe middle of the plinth just looks right.

I have the PL15 D same as the PL 12. Except it is auto return. Rebuilt it rewired etc. found it on a dump. Lucky a friend is a collector of all sorts, he had all I needed to get it sorted. Looks as good as new now plays very very well never ceases to put a smile on my face. Put a AT95 E on it.
One of the better sounding spinners out there that puts many a high priced thing to shame.

Good little decks those. Thing is as always people take the piss big style with asking prices.
