Still my favourite speaker maker of all time. I've had the Angelus and the TC50i SE/X and I just love what they do. There's definitely a family sound that is more "out of the box" than any other speaker of any kind I have heard. The TC50s have come closest to offering suspension of disbelief and I can't ever see me letting them go unless I find something that exceeds what I imagine is possible.
The only other person I have come across with experience of them is Chris B from TAS so I wanted to see if anyone else out there has heard them.

Are the Spica TC-50 an easy load? S. On paper, no. They are 83-84 Db sensitivity and nominal 4 ohm load, which apparently drops below 3 ohms in places. But reality seems to tell a different story. NVA AP10 and the baby Audio Sterling drive them just fine, They don't seem to change in weight of sound greatly with heftier amp like a Krell, Aragon, Bedini or Nryston, but they really do reward you with a rock solid image and presence. I have only bi-amped with them once, but it was enough to tell me there are rewards to be had.

Not holding my breath! Are they bright sounding? S.

They were always described as slightly dull sounding in terms of tonal balance. I can't really relate to that but they aren't bright either. The Audax fabric dome tweeter they use was always thought of as one of the finest and most natural ever made. If you have come across ethers with an Audax fabric dome you can probably identify with the treble quality. It's very much an "out of the box" sound with tremendous height and presence,

Only time I heard them was a Hi-fi Answers dem at Bristol show probably in the late 80's. They were using their own preamp design and a Voyd Valdi. Certainly an interesting design.

Get great reviews, I would dearly love to hear a pair. I remember someone comparing them to the Ref 3A De Cappo.
High praise indeed.

My mate briefly had a pair of those and they gave the clearest and cleanest sound I have ever heard in his room. Mine are the souped-up TC50 with the daft name ....TC50i SE/X (external upgraded crossovers, extra cabinet bracing and a rewire). I have never heard the stock version but I can’t see the difference so being huge.
