Just missed one on EBay. I made a best offer instead of just buying it, I have always wanted to try one. It was from OZ, so there was import tax to add, but even still, it was only £94 plus £14 post. Next time I will just pay up

How different is the OZ version to the UK/ESCo one? The original A&R version had a hf suck-out followed by a peak over 10k which added a 'sting' to the extreme highs I remember. The later ESCo made styli and different diamond profile (Paratrace type?) were smoother so the suckout stayed around 3db down in the highs right out to 20k and beyond...
Alternatively and more universal, don't forget the Sumiko Pearl, which has the same body I gather but with standard elliptical stylus profile. Pretty well identical to the E77 and Rega R100 - and possibly the Supex SM100E as well....

I'm not sure about the differences tbh. I just saw that there are modern "Garrott" carts for sale which made me ponder because I know the brothers are sadly long gone. I have an almost unused P77 in a box awaiting some point when I muster up enough energy and (and stay in one place long enough!) to fit it. I'm really hoping that will be in a unipivot because the last P77 I had was gorgeous in a Mayware arm. There's just "something" about the P77 that attracts me. It's not in any way close to being the best cart I've used. Not even the best MM, but tremendously enjoyable when it's in good company. I bougt a P77MG which lost some of that magic but I have always hankered after an original Garrott one. Maybe it won't live up to expectations, but I'd sure like to try

I've both bodies and a dented P77 stylus which needs replacing. At the time, a Rega R100 hit the spot (same basic body I gather) but my surviving sample sounds rather bassy and underwhelming today... I can see how a Mayware would have sounded good with a P77.

I loved that Mayware. Took me completely by surprise. To date it's my on,y experience of a unipivot but I hope it won't be my last, the Aro is just too expensive to justify and it's not something I'd enjoy cueing, I really fancy a Nima though.
