This was initially inspired by my Spotfire experience and my revisiting of Klotz/Rega cable with Neutrik Profi plugs. The plugs on the Spotfire were lovely to use but at £50 for 4, they aren’t cheap. I’m now playing with other cables fitted with Eichmann bullets, which also sound very promising,
It’s left me wondering just how much of the sound is cable, how much is plugs, whether solder plays a part and whether it’s more about the whole than the parts.
I know there are some who have dabbled and compared, so I thought I’d throw it open to discussion. Of course, I could just splash £50 on a set of KLEI Harmony and make up two sets of the same cable, one with cheaper plugs. I’m not sure that would give me much of an answer for my £50 outlay though. All it would really tell me is if that particular cable benefits from better plugs.
If I was to experiment, I’d be more likely to try MS Audio Starline, but even it’s an expensive learning curve if you’re using several sets experimenting.
I would also be interested in hearing about other plugs too, including mains.

All cables are flawed and that goes for the plugs as well.
I would rather have top flight plugs on a cheap cable than the other way round.
The differences are not huge of course, but every little helps.

The only premium plugs I had experience of prior to this were Neutrik Profi, which water a waste of money. Now I find two exceptional cables, one with KLEI and the other with Eichmannn bullets. Not enough evidence to form a pattern, but just enough to make me curious.

Don't know if plugs do make a difference, but my Mogami interconnect has KLE's and it has bettered cables costing much more.

Neutrik Profis, worst plugs I've ever heard. Killed a pair of Mark Grant cables, swapped them for a £7 quad of eBay's cheapest and the cables came alive. Best plugs?....IMO anything from the KLE harmony to the KLE pure. They improved every cable I fitted them to. EICHMAN Bullet plugs or AECO plugs of a similar design are very good too. Best bargain plug? MSAudio silver plated. £20!!!! Mogami cables are seriously underated but make no mistake, a veritable bargain. I love Mogami cables. However, they are flawed, as Is all OFC cable. Grain in the copper from crystals. That's why most 'high end'(read expensive) cables use UP-OCC Silver or copper. The best step for me is to try a RCA plug which is a little bit different but not cheap, hence the delay!!

Must admit, the more I look at plugs, the mobi think Oliver is right that KLE are the best, Eichmanns have very similar elements, but the puns to solder onto look far more bothersome, I’ve also read that they aren’t easy to solder. If only they were cheaper. Anyone had any experience of MS audio Starline? They look good for the price, but don’t look as nice as KLE harmony.

The star shaped connection is made by AECO who charge £40 for 4 plugs with the same connection!!! Not as good as the KLE but great for the money. Only gripe is limited cable support due to the massive clearance of the body. Need a fair bit of heat shrink to build up smaller cables like the Mogami.

I’ll order a couple of pairs to play with. Even if they sit a while, they are good to have to hand.
