Oooh, they're expensive. I remember hearing the Kuzma XL with their arm, one of the two fav tt's.

You sometimes see the odd Delphi for sale with a second hand linear tracker. The concept just seems right to me, Even the Technics linear trackers sound good to me, so I am curious.

I am a bit reluctant to mention my turntable because it is perhaps conceived to be high end and monebags but I arrived at it because of buying and selling on route.
Not had that many but started with a Trio direct drive deck, Sony bio-tracer, then decided that I had better learn a little bit about hi-fi, so onto PT export then the Anniversary with SME V,Wilson Benesch Circle with act 2 arm, I had been using An Iso and Densen phono stages. Phono stage upgrades via Whest made me recognise that despite good gear the limitation was in phono stage choice. With hindsight any of my turntables would have been better if I had understood the value of a good phono stage
A TW acustic Raven AC was being sold ex demo for a good price and I also wanted to try a twelve inch arm. over a period of time I obtained a lyra titani for a very good price ( having previously used a Lyra evolve 99) on the end of a 12" Reed tonearm. For less than half price I ended with the Whest Reference mk4 mono phono stage and now I just sick back and enjoy.
Its not that I am wealthy far from it but as a former professional buyer I seem to spot the main chance and reckon that I am where I want to be.
When I was in the PT sprung platter camp I was content but now that I have moved in the opposite direction the whole is absolutely one.

'Hi end moneybags' lol that is funny.
No-one here minds if you spent a million quid, not our business to judge.
If you want proper serious vinyl sound you won't get it from one of those Rega things, lets all admit it.
You could have posted a picky of it though...

Bollocks. A Planar 6/Neo with Ania and even a Fono MC is a serious turntable system (not as thumpy as a technics 1200mk2 series deck) and so is the RP8/Apheta 2. Try one and see!
The only gripe I have with a TW Raven is over UK price rises. When I first saw and heard one back in 2009 or so, it was under two grand plus arm I seem to remember, so basically a beautifully finished and presented Ace-Spacedeck level deck in price. I believe now, it's (the GT version) around six grand in the UK, so basically it's leapfrogged an Orbe, HyperSpace and is kicking Dias territory, let alone Acoustic Solids and other mini-oil-rig types. Beautifully finished though and to a standard Westie may like as well...

Nearer £600 now and very different under the skin from older ones. They like their wall bracket ideally, as the light rigid construction can be sonically coloured by plonking on a shelf or perhaps an average rack (although that's how I heard and enjoyed records played on a Planar 6/Ania some months back). Site them properly and you'll get a (literally) fast tight, bright, clear sound, but perhaps lacking the 'organic warmth' of the LP12 fruitbox variety...

I like and admire Nottingham dais decks but the TW is a bit above that level. I suspect that the Raven AC is nearer to £12k these days and the GT works out about £6k, they do an even really stupid money o'clock model for monopoly money. As I dont smoke and not allowed to drink (don't talk to many girls at my age, my wife would not approve) I will happily settle for what I have.
Like most music fans I have enjoyed the upgrade path and every thing on the way perhaps because I started my hi-fi ? journey with a Ferguson music centre!.

Nah, I'd take an SL1200 over any of the Regas any day. Get rid of the stupid rubber mat it comes with and fit an Achromat, no more thump.

The new ones are even better. I had my doubts before I copped a listen, I'll admit. But if I was buying a new TT that's what I'd be getting.

A stock 1210 is a dry and thumpy thing and not hugely 'musical' in the Linn sense, but I do readily admit that sensible not silly money fine tuning it may well reap huge benefits here.
I do however have very fond memories of the previous SL1500's I had (and may have the second one back as the arm with modern headshell and exit cables was better than the later ones with MC types), but I needed to learn how to use them right.
P.S. Don't EVER use a current Rega MM cartridge (AT91/carbon excepted) - they're pretty dire and i believe Rega know it and are working on it.
I just feel you need a better reference for these things that merely a 'better' turntable. Kinda put it all into perspective for me back then and maybe some colourations I can live with but not others that other people cope with just fine?

Different price to a Rega 3 now though isn't it? The motor is now similar I believe to the one in my Dual 701. A shame that now it's domesticated (too dear for DJ's now), they couldn't jave made it look more like the SL150mk2 of old, but that's me reminiscing

You had a listen to the new Technics then? Worth it if you can. Hi-Fi Dave should get them in.

The sound from vinyl, even from this model is apparently utterly rock-solid and surface noise etc. is minimised so you don't notice it at all. Even the current top LP12 still sounds vague and over-warm in comparison he tells me.

We were talking of the techie you have I believe and yes, an SL150 is a bloody good deck if you did but listen to one properly used and suffers none of the regulator cogging the 1210 can suffer and transformer hum when using MC cartridges (but of course Dave Cawley doesn't know what he's on about as he's the only one who actually tested the motor unit and published his findings on the Timestep site). A Morris Marina is more like an BSR UA25 in comparison...
