I do like the look of the Yamahas. I only heard them once and it wasn’t in a shop floor. I have no idea of source and amps so it would be unfair to judge them. They were very thin sounding on that occasion.

Heard a pair at the Huddersfield bakeoff and loved them. Not a hint of thin sound or harshness. I thought they were fantastic though they were on the end of £30k+ worth of kit IIFRC
A guy on AoS (Qwin) who has improved his by removing the bass driver for something more capable of decent bass. Any plans for further experimentation Jamie?

I've heard the NS-1000's a few times.
When they started being marketed here many years ago, I heard them at a show on the Yamaha stand with some serious wattage shoved up 'em. No way did they sound thin, more incredibly tight, punchy and dynamic, with bags of detail.

I owned a pair of NS1000M's when this pair were less than ten years old. There's a strange 'synthetic' kind of colouration in them and once heard, it's there every time you hear them - it sometimes prevents the fine musical 'stuff' to come through. A small valve amp is not to be recommended in my opinion as the response will be altered for the worse and the bass won't breathe properly IMO - built in compression and soft clipping not my scene even now. Give 'em POWER and they can come to life and may just start to give some kind of air and space... One speaker I don't miss at all apart from the looks...
