I have numerous Hi-Fi items on my ebay watchlist and scour the site regularly anyway. The best bargains disappeared years ago, but you still get the occasional bit worth buying and I'm very good at spotting these.

Yes, very cheap assuming they work OK. A lot of well made speaker for the money. The horn tweeters are Foster (Fostex) units, no bad thing. |

Yes, very cheap assuming they work OK. A lot of well made speaker for the money. The horn tweeters are Foster (Fostex) units, no bad thing. Only about 20 miles away from where I’m staying at the mo. I could have them and check them over first, but I didn’t like the Akais at all and they really aren’t my thing. Somebody will get a bargain, even if they just want the drivers. 2 x 15 inch bass units are usually much more. |

You can get the same sort of sound for a lot less money by picking up a pair of seventies Sonabs.

I checked every Eltax I could find and they didn’t match anything, not even a driver or tweeter. I’m still searching but nothing seems to match.

Don't laugh at me just yet - Bournemouth only - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Retro-BSR-McDonald-HT-70-Turntable-Record-Deck/153204403938?hash=item23abb1aee2:g:8lMAAOSwAOxbtLkPThe HT70 ran at the correct speed (the MP60 was slightly fast as most Regas are) and the heavier taller platter gets the arm nearly level and rumble and general grungy noise was *very* much reduced too. Obviously it'll need lubrication (chainsaw viscous oil on the main bearing, light sewing machine oil on the idler and the mech gently cleaning and sparingly lubed), but with something like an AT95E or OM Pro fitted (78 styli can be got too) I bet it ain't all bad news. I wanted one of these as I thought it genuinely worth trying and my times with this style was the Garrard SP25. Sure it's not a Dual, but still...
God I wish I'd kept my Hi Fi Sound mags in better nick - priceless reviews from the mid 60's to mid 70's...

I remember the BSR turntables, including the HT70. The only one I ever fancied owning was the 810. A mate had one and it performed pretty well.

Fine when new, but I seem to remember not so fine when old and unreliable. Not enough around to check though. The HT 70 mech goes back to a newer generation of BSR smaller-format auto decks from the late 60's when the 'size-flipper' was phased out. probably Sh#t now, but I think it might be acceptable today. Like theGgarrard SP25 family, this model got belt drive (BDS 80/125SB and siblings).

I never had any interest in the belt drive BSR's and Garrards (or Duals). It seemed to me they were just junping on the belt drive bandwagon.
