Anyone planning a trip? What you looking forward to seeing and hearing?
If anyone does attend, they are welcome to post thoughts and pics here. If they don’t, we can still always discuss whether we can scavenge from elsewhere.

Cool! Hopefully you will get enough time to have a good look round the other rooms. I haven’t looked recently to see who’s attending, so the write ups will be a bit of a surprise for me.

I can get a direct train from the end of my street, takes an hour and a half, £35 return.
Does anyone know how much they charge to get in? Or is it free entry?

Just had a look, twenty quid on the door.
They're having a laugh really, I have to pay for the privilege of having people try to sell me stuff?
Don't mind paying for Scalford or the hire of the room at a bake-off but paying to get into a commercial show? What added value am I getting for my £20?

I’m sure that was free entry and it had way more exhibitors. £20 is too much.

It's taking the piss. A fiver is about the limit. Poor business sense too, because exhibitors need footfall. Anyone who is in two minds will just not bother, I bet they would get loads more people at a fiver or even a tenner. Then next year they would have more exhibitors rather than less.

If it was just down the road maybe I'd pay the twenty. But add the train fare on and something to eat and your looking at sixty quid.
Last show I went to was the NW Audio Show, that's in its fifth year and has always been free entry and a complimentary drink. Very posh venue too. So I don't see the need to charge, especially not so much. And if it is anything like the last show I went to... trawled round all the rooms, finally got to one where I was thinking 'This is almost as good as what I've got.' The speakers alone were twelve grand. Just the speaker cables cost more than my entire system. And yet it wasn't quite there.
There were only 2 as good as or better, Longdog and Lampizator. And Lampizator were using speakers that cost as much as my house is worth.
And btw I'm not saying my set up is that great, I've heard better at bake-offs many times. So do I want to spend £60 for that? No.

Is there any goodie bag or anything? £20 just to get in is a turn off. If they had bundled a mag and a couple of freebies, it might’ve tipped the balance.

If there is then they aren't making any mention of it I saw. I suspect the way it works is the exhibitors fees cover the cost of the venue and the ticket money goes to the organizers. So it's in the interest of the organizers to get as many through the door as possible, which is also what the exhibitors want.
But the exhibitors also want a certain demographic. No point trying to flog your hundred grand system down the local market, you could do that every week for decades and not get one person walk past who could afford it, even if they wanted it.
So I guess twenty quid to get in (or fifteen of you pay in advance) also helps to separate the wheat from the chaffe. I'm chaffe, I suppose.

Just had a look at the list of exhibitors. It’s a bit “B Movie” to be honest. Only Audio Note, Analogue Works and Lampizator would really interest me. If it was on my doorstep, I would probably pay £20 but, like you, it’s not worth the entry once you have travel costs. www.chestergroup.org/theaudioavshow/2018/brands-and-exhibitors

I have always wondered whether they were the same Hart Audio who used to do the John Linsley Hold kit amps?

No, different company entirely. I think they were Hart Audio Kits, then Williams-Hart or something similar. The Hart Audio bloke used to be a brief, lives on the Isle Of Wight. Opinion on his speakers seems to be dived between him being a genius or a right chancer.

It's taking the piss. A fiver is about the limit. I could be wrong, but I think you could have go a free ticket if ordered before the end of August. Oh, and a fiver doesn't buy you anything these days.

That's my point, I'm paying for the privilege of being sold to. They should pay me a fiver as an incentive to attend, that would make more sense.

I applied for a press pass a couple of months ago and they replied with a long list of demands about idendity before I could even get through the door and criteria to be met when doing a show report. Feck that, I don't do demands from anyone.

Then they go and hand out spare passes to exhibitors to hand out as they please. Illogical as ever.

Only a few pics so far, but all the attendees seem to be my age or older... Westie would be a youth had he attended... Lots of good comments about the Longdog room (his amps are serious kit I understand - forget your knackered old Krells costing over a grand ) and fresh thought gone into them as regards devices used and little tricks here and there that don't seem outrageous.

I would if I could, but I never went and would have been press-ganged into the room opposite you if I had Longdog is one firm I'd like to get to know better I admit. Good vibes online so far as regards the sounds you were making and hope you had a good 'un.

I would’ve liked to see a few rooms, but I think I’d need somtpething like 5e old Heathrow shows to tempt me into travelling

Cheers Dave, next time maybe. Yes quite pleased with the sound we were getting, the room treatment makes a real difference, it’s not easy getting something decent in a hotel room. We got quite a few best sound of the show comments.

Was chatting to a guy from Qobuz, apparently it will be available through Roon in a couple of weeks’ time. Got a three month free trial off him.
