Hi all
After a long break I've started putting hifi systems together again.
As a schoolboy / student in the 1990s all my spare money went on records, CDs and hifi but life / living space since then was not conducive to a decent system, and my vinyl and turntable were given away in the 200s when my daughter was small and the space was needed.
I'm now using streaming along with my remaining CDs. My main system uses an Exposure amp and cd player, RME DAC, Wiim streamer and monitor audio standmount speakers. The challenge here is my relatively small living room and I am looking at experimenting with different speakers.
I work from home most days and use a streamer with Genelec monitors for listening to music at my desk. I've been very pleased with the simplicity of this setup and the effectiveness of the Genelec room correction.
Looking forward to learning some things from this forum.

Welcome.
Some bigger Genelecs seems an obvious thing to try as you seem to like the brand. They seem to be highly regarded and good vfm.
Recently I've bought a WiiM streamer and the onboard dsp room correction has won me over. Definitely worth staying with that kind of approach imo.

While my main system is passive my other systems including the three way I am taking to the Maverick Show on 27th October in Barnsley are active and for they offer a very high quality sound that can be adjusted to relieve some of the room interference . Why not come along to the show there will be lots to see and hear I will be in room 240 drop in and say hello ask me to play some music you like . Oh and entrance this year will be free .

Welcome. Some bigger Genelecs seems an obvious thing to try as you seem to like the brand. They seem to be highly regarded and good vfm. Recently I've bought a WiiM streamer and the onboard dsp room correction has won me over. Definitely worth staying with that kind of approach imo. I've thought about this, it there's a few things tempting me to stick with a passive setup for a bit longer at least: 1. I'm very happy with Genelecs as desk monitors, but in a main system I would need to boost the bass. The obvious path for that is a Genelec subwoofer, but I think a sub will be hard to accommodate in the living room 2. I'm generally onboard with the looks of the Genelecs, but even so they are a hard sell in the main living space. Aesthetics are a consideration, for good or bad. 3. A traditional amp/speaker setup is definitely more flexible in terms of sources. 4. Bit of a heart over head reason, but I always wanted Exposure kit when I was younger it was out of reach to me...now I have it, I have some loyalty to it (and paid well for it!) The Genelecs have definitely opened my eyes/ears to room correction tech. I haven't had much luck with the Wiim room correction but I think that may be down to the phone mic. I'll do the REW thing at some point, I think, and try applying some correction through the RME.
