Picked up a great example of one of these the other day, in really good condition, with plenty life left on the heads- There's usually a good few up for sale, but what drew me to this one in particular is that it's had all the electrolytics and tantalum caps replaced- you can see the old ones in the above photo. That's a must with these nowadays- they're all at least 30 years old now. Was owned by a musician who used it in his home studio, and was apparently his pride and joy, which I can believe given it's condition. I'm heading down to Stafford on Monday for work, so taking the chance to drop this and my Tandberg TD20a in at Reel Resilience in Derby- from what I could find, they are one of the top places in the UK for reel machines- to have them biased for LPR90 tape. Couple of more pics-

Ken Kessler, who writes for the Hi-Fi News & Record Review magazine likes the reel-to-reel players. He has often said the best players are just about as good as vinyl, and better than most of the music-playing formats.
Good luck with your purchase. I hope you manage to to get the required work done (and done well). Perhaps you will let us know how the player sounds when you get it plugged into your system and run it in for a few hours/days.

Yes always liked these, hard part is finding a good unmolested one that doesn't need a load of work, or one of the "Serviced" ones on Ebay that someone ran a cloth over... Got lucky with this one.

Was working down in Stafford for a couple of weeks, so took the opportunity to drop this and the Tandberg off at Reel Resilience in Derby, who are apparently one of the top places in the UK for reel machines, to get them looked over and calibrated for LPR90 tape. Just been speaking to Iain, he's done both machines, and said the Revox is in great condition and has the best frequency response he's ever seen from a B77. Good to know I got a decent machine. :-)
