A few weeks ago I noticed my left speaker was not working as it should, I played all kinds of things, including "sweep tests" from YouTube. I got in touch with Martin, my dealer who supplied them 11 months ago, and he came out to try and diagnose what was wrong. He did hear a problem, and said it was the top speaker driver. He boxed the speaker up and took it away for further tests before any major decisions were made. A day later he sent an e-mail asking if I had had any kind of accident with the speaker, I gave an emphatic no, as it had only ever been dusted and 2 lots of demo cables inserted. He then went on to say that the metal speaker grill was pushed in slightly and was touching the driver, causing it to malfunction (not work). Yesterday he sent a short video of the speaker playing some organ music, and said speaker was working OK... Without the metal grill in place. So it seems to me that the grill was at fault (more tests to be carried out), and not the actual driver.
So may be back up and running soon with a fixed speaker, new XLR's (pre/power amp interconnects) and new speaker cable

Pleased it sounds like an easy fix. You'll have to tell us what your new cables are.

Glad they have got to the bottom of it Pete. Fingers crossed they are fine now. Ironinic that the item protecting the tweeter had stopped it functioning correctly!
The metal grille must have slipped through their QC after manufacture or been damaged on its way to you. A reminder for us all to check a new product very carefully on receipt.

Audiomica of course, I'm sure they're very good according to what I've read. Are you changing your XLR's?

Audiomica of course, I'm sure they're very good according to what I've read. Are you changing your XLR's? Yes, the very similar to the ones I got before, from AF Audio, but they have built in "enhancers", something Andrew Foster has been collaborating with a speaker maker (no detail as yet tho) they have a lot of silver in them and are an upgrade to the original Bodhi cables I purchased last year from him. So with all the new cables and the speaker fixed, am expecting to hear great things. The Audiomica cables are the same ones that Bill Leigh,( the UK distributor for Amphion) uses at Hi Fi shows for the Amphion Krypton an 7LS speakers (I was chatting with him a few weeks ago)

Update... I heard back from my dealer, he will be coming next Thurs to reinstall the speaker, and if the Audiomica cables are not ready, he will bring my TQ ones that I traded in, back (until they arrive). The service from Martin at Analogue Seduction has been nothing short of first class.

Yesterday (7th), I sent my dealer an e mail just asking if everything was still OK for today, it was. I then added a cheeky "don't suppose" thing to the e mail, that said roughly... "don't suppose you have a Ferrum Wanda (The Dac I really want) at hand so you can bring it over when you come"? He and I had discussed this a while ago, but having reservations about the hefty £800 deposit and not 100% trusting of courier services, I declined. He said "No problem, shall I bring the Hypos power unit as well" Oh dear, what have I done, if I like it, and decide to order one, more dammed expense, why can't I keep my mouth zipped shut, lol

Pete, from what I've read on another forum, the Hypsos is a must have. Will look forward to your findings.

update number 2... Some good news and some not so good news, I will try and elaborate... Martin from Analogue Seduction came with my speaker and explained it was OK, He plumbed it in using the old speaker cable (which he bought with him, even tho I have traded it in), I played a couple of well known tracks and everything sounded fine, but the sound was quite left hand speaker heavy, he switched the speaker connections over at the amps, and the sound was now right hand heavy, it sounded as if a balance knob had been adjusted. He then put the speaker wires (Z plugs) into the Anthem A/V amp, and it all came together as it should do. Problem solved, it was NOT the speaker as first thought, but the left hand power amp, something was not quite right. He rang the PS Audio importer and explained, so now have sent the offending amp off for a service, typical tho, its just out of warranty. I bought the amps from another well know dealer in Hull, but so to avoid the hassle of sending it back to him, Martin took it (in its original box with the UK importers stamp on it) to get repaired which I heard him say would just swap out the offending board and put a new one in. So, in a nutshell, I have all the speakers been amplified by the A/V amp, so no real hardship I did not hear the Ferrum Dac, as one of the amps was missing (boxed up) and there was no point

If it's not one thing it's another for you Pete. It will all come good in the end I'm sure, and I'm now making you odds on to get a listen to a Ferrum dac in the near future.

If it's not one thing it's another for you Pete And this is why I never buy pre loved gear, as I always have some kind of bad luck. Yes, buying something new may be expensive, but it does have its benefits, even if one of my PS amps will cost a couple of hundred or 3 hundred

I was talking via e mail with my dealer and he said regarding the power amp... If it was found it was not the cause of the problem, no charge (I paid a decent amount for this) would be levied, but would be used for investigations and testing of the SGCD (the PS Dac/Pre), as its either one or the other.
All this testing etc is being done by the UK distributor of PS Audio products

Good luck with it Pete, ever thought of a simple little bluetooth speaker? I was lucky to have my a/v amp to hand (Anthem MRX 520, basic 5.1 with 2 sub outs to LFE), we use it every day to listen/watch Netflix, prime etc. so just put the front speakers into that, so have 5.2 all coming out together
