Hi folks,
I'm from Bristol and am already some way down the rabbit hole.
I've had a fairly consistent system for the past year or two, but do have some possible plans ahead.
I'm off to a valve amp bake-off in July as I may wish to change my Leak ST20 at some point, so am after some inspiration. On that note I need to have a play with my spare valves today as it was sounding pants last night so I think I may have a valve which is going wonky. I've no way to check if they are in spec, so will have to replace them one at a time and work out which is playing up.
Other plans are to eventually get a Techie 1210G, in upgrade from my GR.
I'm expecting some new records to be delivered today and have this week off work, so the TT will be getting a spin later.
I'm hoping to have a chance this week to valve roll my BB3 with some ECC83's John/Lurch lent me at his recent BO. But this will need to wait until I've worked out what's up with the Leak and am happy with how it's sounding.

Hi there and welcome.
Although it sounds like you've practically been a member as long as anyone!
There are still a few valve-based pieces around as others will attest to, as well as some die-hard vinyl fans (myself included!).

I've actually been looking into these as a possible/probable contender to get into the living room. I've heard a couple of other systems with these in them and been very impressed each time. Fortunately (or unfortunately in this case) I don't yet have the readies to make the switch, so my planned change is one for the coming months. I am also about to start a new job and so don't want to be big spending until I'm settled in. Great rec though and a good price. |

Pete, that's the same amp as Robin has, nice warm valvey sound as an intergrated. Switch it over to its direct (power amp) mode taking the pre section out of the equation and it's a superb sounding 50wpc amp. |

The LM amp maybe not such a bargain for something that is 7 years old, although he has changed the valves. Can be purchased from AliExpress for $2200 inc delivery, but you will have to pay some import tax. Reading a review from a user, he was very happy with the supplied tubes, even stating other users have just re-ordered the same set of tubes for the amp. He said you would have to pay at least $2000 to better them and that is a few years ago. I need to back a few winners this Derby weekend.  |
