Hi guys,
I'm about to make a major speaker upgrade, something I rarely do, which will be a pretty high outlay for me.
I've never considered it before but with regards to ferro fluid cooled tweeters these speakers have a 1.25" Audax silk dome. With the large outlay I'm a little apprehensive that degradation in sound is inevitable when the fluid is dried up. I've also heard this can happen in a year.
Current speakers have a ribbon and less of an issue. The new speakers will likely be end game and not sold. At least for 20 odd years!
Am I overthinking this one or is it a concern for most buyers?

Whatever you do, try the speakers in your room/system first. I know this is a hassle, but any good dealer/speaker retailer will offer this as an option on high value items. A dealer demo is a good starting point, but this will not tell you how particular speakers will work in your room.
IMO, most systems are compromised by suboptimal speaker/room pairings.
Enjoy looking and good luck finding your end game speakers.

Regarding the tweeters, perhaps check with Audax direct. I'd imagine they aim for a 20 year life minimum. Most tweeters seem good for 20-30years. Most get poked in before then anyway! If it's a standard Audax unit it would be easy and not expensive to replace anyway. Edit: I've had various speakers with Ferro fluid tweeters and never experienced any early failures or degradation.

I've bought blind before with lucky results (except PMC 21, worst speakers imaginable) but when the costs get high it'd be foolish not to hear it in you're own system. I think you know what sound you're looking for too when you've been listening for years.

I'm giving Adrian down in Devon a demo of the Arke Ekta Mk2's in his system, he was very impressed with the sound at my gaff. It will be a nice escape from my fraught domestic situation at the moment.

Hi Arke I have a pair of Quadral Chromium Style 8 speakers. I'm looking at the Gold Note A6. I like the downfiring sub configuration for starters. Where can I find info on your speakers?

Hi jazzdad, I can build any Troels Gravesen design to a bespoke spec. My clients choose materials and we can design the cabinet and aesthetics to suit (with some constraints). There are various details on speaker builds in this area of the forum: audioaddictsforum.com/board/45/arke-audioPrices range from £2k upwards. I have various builds around the country. You'd be very welcome for a demo at some point. Drop me a private message if you'd like more info.

You're over-thinking it. Some drivers have an issue with ferrofluid drying up, Audax isn't one of them. Even with those where it does dry up the difference is marginal and you almost certainly won't notice. Power handling of the tweeter will be reduced but only an issue if you run at stupid volumes for a long time. Don't worry about it.
