So, most of you will know that I've been selling off a lot of my HiFi bits and pieces. The main reason for the sell off was to recoup funds for work on the house rather than hit the savings and to retain as much of the sound quality I had been used to. So, I sold my Primaluna Dialogue Premium HP Integrated amp to someone in Spain, I sold my Logitech Transporter Network Media Player to Bencat, Magna Audio Ebony Armboard has just sold. Topping E30ii and Denafrips Ares 2 Dacs both sold. World Audio Design KEL84 XL amp sold and so on. I also sold off my Technics SP-10, Phonomac 1010 arm, Panzerholz Plinth and Tenuto Mat and bought myself a Sony TTS-8000 turntable with SME 3009 Series 2 Improved tonearm and Shure V15v cartridge. Unfortunately the stylus arrived damaged and the speed indicator lights didn't work. The shop on ebay that I bought it from refunded me enough to buy a new Jico SAS/B stylus and pay for the light repair. Main issue with the Shure cartridge is that someone has soldered the tags directly to the cartridge pins so I'm going to have that fixed which will no doubt require at least new tags and perhaps a rewire. I'll get the arm serviced at the same time. That has all been arranged and I'm just waiting on the post to settle down after Xmas so I can send it away. In the meantime however I always check the classifieds and eBay for new toys that I don't really need and thought I'd try another arm whilst the 3009 was away for repair and service. Now I have always wanted to try Dynavector Tonearm, I should have bought a 507 that came up for sale a couple of years ago at half the current asking price, but I had already committed myself to a Phonomac 1010 so I passed on the 507. One came up for sale before Xmas, it was the 505 version which I hadn't thought of before, but with the 507 now being offered for sale at £4000 secondhand it's way beyond what I'd pay for a tonearm, this makes the 505 more tempting so I had a quick chat via WhatsApp to the person I call the 'Bad Influencer' and I bought it within minutes of our chat. So, a couple of days later it arrived, I was hoping it was in good nick as it's sometimes hard to tell from photos. It was better than I expected and looks to have all the parts needed to work, ok it's missing the headshell but as I already have an Orsonic AV-101s that wasn't an issue. The one thing that would have been nice to get with it would have been the stylus overhang tool but unfortunately that's long gone, again I knew this prior to purchase. The arm came with its official mounting template and as far as I could see everything I needed to get it mounted onto the TT and a tonearm cable, unknown make but looks decent, maybe someone here can identify it. Photos below shows what I bought and I'll update the thread as I go along. Last photo shows it alongside the SME 3009.

I remember Martin (of The Audio Standard forum), used to have the Dynavector DV507-II mounted on his modded SL1210, before he went all digital.
Keep us posted re: sound, performance etc once you've got it set up properly and a cart properly dialled in.

Nice. I expect that to be awesome. Although perhaps tricky to set up optimally.

Wow. That looks fantastic. A lot of sacrifices made, but impressed at your approach. Well done.

Nice. I expect that to be awesome. Although perhaps tricky to set up optimally. It gives that impression on looking at it but I think it's easier than it looks, there's only a few paragraphs of info in the manual and only a couple deal with the adjustments. Time will tell I suppose, hoping to get my headshell back from Angus on Thursday so we'll see then.

Wow. That looks fantastic. A lot of sacrifices made, but impressed at your approach. Well done. Sacrifices perhaps but I'm missing nothing in audio quality, yeah I've no doubt if you had both systems side by side you'd notice some differences but that's now impossible anyway, even after buying the Sony TT and the Dynavector arm I've put a few £1000 back in the bank and I'm really enjoying what I'm hearing.

I'll be honest here and say it was totally my decision, my wife just lets me do my own thing as far as the HiFi is concerned. Although I'm surprised she hasn't given me grief for selling the Primaluna as she loved the valves glowing away in the dark, but so far I'm still fully intact

Must admit my recent and planned ongoing (Bardo, 12" Enterprise4 & Summits) de-investment not only feels good but has not reduced SQ by any significant margin to my ears. Even with buying the new amp and speakers, I'm still £4k up with the 3 items, above still to sell, will also have a cart clearout once the 401/750D is, up and running and I decide what to keep so happy days.

Yes, nice, the headshell is a good aesthetic match, I think. Very techno.

Fitting the cartridge now

Cartridge now loosely fitted, my main issue right now is no protractor. So the next bit is going to be guesswork working off the supplied arm template. I've also added photos of the cable it came with, any ideas as to which manufacturer or is it a bespoke one? I'll also need to buy slightly shorter screws and nylon washers for the cartridge, those are the only ones I could find.

Forgot to say that it comes with a handy screw in carrier so you don't handle the arm itself and perhaps damage the bearing?

Looks a wonderful thing, be interested to hear your thoughts on how it sounds when you have it set up

The beauty of the arm is that you don't actually need to screw it to the plinth, it weights 1.2kg and can just sit on the plate that it bolts to. They were originally supplied with a thin rubber mat to sit underneath and I've seen reports that some people just use double sided tape to fix it to their plinths. I've had a quick listen and bearing in mind I've just plonked it there and just tried to match it with the template, I'm blown away, I'm literally gobsmacked as to how it sounds and it's not even setup properly. Last photo especially for Oli 😂

Yeah, I'm not surprised it's a good'un.
I've always had a deep respect for Dynavector. Love love their cartridges, a Dyna amp has long been on my Interest List.
Congrats.

Thanks Jerry, Chris and Jason, I'm loving the looks too I only had a quick listen as it's not setup correctly as far as the stylus is concerned but even with the rough placement of the arm I am well impressed with it, the impact of the bass even at low volumes is excellent and at higher volume it is jaw dropping, to say I'm chuffed is an understatement. Bear in mind this is only through the Denon PMA850s built in MC stage which I knew was supposed to be good but I've never heard it like this before. I can't wait to get a protractor printed up to align it properly.

Annoyingly I've noticed there now a scratch on the plinth that wasn't there before, no idea how it's happened but once seen.... 😔

Oh bollocks.....polish it and move on. It's matt so I think polishing will make it more obvious like trying to polish slate, can only see it when putting a record on so it's no real issue just annoying. Wee bit pencil might colour it in. Edit: protractor printed and now set up as it should be (well as good as you can get with a it paper and some masking tape 😂, just using a Stevenson one just now until I get the proper Dynavector one. Tape is only there to mark the position of the baseplate, the arm isn't going anywhere with the weight of it, but just in case 😉

I have to say, it is a great looking combo.
Seriously, seriously good looking.

Yeah, have to agree the whole package looks like it was designed and constructed to play vinyl with serious, optimum intent (so make sure you align the arm/cart meticulously, with care, like your life depends on it - that's always my approach, it's so critical, otherwise, and as I always say, evaluation is flawed ....)
