Because Mikeyb is a very nice man I have been allowed to buy the above and but . This is not a very new item in an area that has grown very quickly . Despite this the Transporter is still a very versatile unit with only a USB input missions and that is no great loss . One thing it does have is a word clock input which is something I am hoping I can use generated by my Mutec . If it works it should be very interesting . In its day this was a very expensive unit built to show how far digital streaming could go with a £2000 price tag . Yes I know it is old tech but a bit like early CD Players and CD Transports they were often made with better materials so it may well be very surprising with its sound quality fed with a decent clock signal .

You know, the one I have here is pretty impressive tbh. It's been in and out of the system a wee bit, but when you're using aTOP quality CDT and the Novafidelity X50D, it's not like it's going to be in all the time! Very versatile, and the options to change skins and almost entirely customise everything, make this a bit of a bargain! I imagine if someone were to delve right into the menus etc, you could squeeze even more out of it...but that wasn't something I was ever going to do. Well done Andrew. This will serve you well I think.

Thanks Oli. I have used a Squeezebox Touch and LMS for years and I really know my way round the menus and the tweaks . Best part is you can do most of the changes via the control software . Oh and I have not mentioned the best bit you can have the front display with meters , yes I know they are not real but the needle twitches and you just can't stop looking . Roll on next week .

Well the Transporter has arrived and is in great condition no issues with delivery via Royal Mail . Now just have to have a long think and move around on my rack to see what will fit were . I think this may be a long day with me getting more excited and less patient very quickly . While I love to get new kit when it is different in size to things i already have things get complicated . I should just buy a bigger rack but hate paying out some of the silly prices that are going round .

Nothing is ever simple is it . Took Mike,s detailed instruction and reset the Transporter via the power button . Then as asked set up the network to Ethernet and obtained the ISP address so far so good . Pointed the it to my Music Server and that was found . Switched the digital output to BNC had the Transporter connected to my Mutec . Then went on LMS and the Transporter appeared as Living Room presume this is how Mike labelled it . Started a Random Mix going page on LMS showed it playing but no sound . Nothing showing on Mutec external clock lights not put up no input lights as well . Went back in to settings and again chose settings and set for BNC SPDIF output still nothing . Switched everything off and disconnected the BNC cable switched to an AES/EBU on XLR reset the Transporter set XLR out. Mutec now shows input and and external clock light after its usual click and pop to sort itself out music . Playing now and sounding very nice . Used the BNC cable to connect to the Transporter Word Clock input but again did not work lights on Mutec went off no sound . Will have to leave that for another day need to just get a few hours listening to music and see how things work out . So far no regrets sounds good with a sleep girly different presentation compared to my previous player . More filled out and very nice detail .

There are settings in LMS for slave and master clock option might it be that?

Read the two and they made perfect sense and the connections and settings they indicate are exactly what I did but got no sound . What I need to check is that the Mutec is outputting the correct word clock matched to the file it is playing which I now it switches as I can see the changes on my Purcell and Delius . But that is through the Digital out of the Mutec will need to find out what the clock out is from the Mutec and if that can be adjusted .

Hmmm reading the Mutec manual I do not think that this will work if using an external clock . As it is is set up I am using the XLR SPDIF in and the Mutec is set to External and Reclock . This works on the signal input and is I think then referenced to the external clock input . Getting the Word Clock to be matched does not look to be possible but in truth I am confused .

Yipee ! Just had a compete reset and connected everything back up and started things playing at the settings from yesterday . Worked music came out . Then went through the LMS menus Player/Audio then down to the input controls enabled the Word Clock as the input and pressed save silence and then the music continued . Then also enabled the Word Clock output as well and again save silence on then the music plays again . So just being persistent with digital pays off if you know it is connected correctly and it should work you need to keep repeating the same process . Now the bit like one will it retain the settings if switched off ? Not sure will have to see . There may well be a way to switch off not looked at the Transporter manual to see so a little reading . Was this all worth it ..... Oh yeah the realistic and wonderful music coming out now is well worth the effort . Now just have to get things burned in .

Well done, I read in one those pages I linked that someone did something similar with the save, reboot, save, change, save, reboot, change, save reboot, relax 😂

Well after a bit more time to play burn in and use still smiling and enjoying what this player does Tony said he felt the sound quality was not all that and compared to some of the exotica he gets to use and listen to he is right for him . As for me and my music this is a step up sounds great and has me playing sometimes everyday . Could not ask for more to be honest. Fits in with my LMS ecosystem perfectly and then there is the meters just lovely to look at and become mesmerized with the twitching .
