As I was always being told to back up my music (as well as everything else) I always made sure I made periodic backups to my 2tb portable HD, the NAS did it automatically. I noticed the other week, while looking at its music files, that there were a lot that had not been backed up. I was in a mild sense of panic (as that is just me). I mailed my IT guy who set it up, and he came out yesterday. It said it was working 100%, but he noticed a wee red tick on the toolbar icon. The problem was the SSL Certificate was not in date, why? because it somehow had been unable to auto update or something. He re entered my password (or I did) and hey presto, it fixed itself, and downloaded nearly 500 files that had not got on the NAS drive, but were on the PC. So now its up to date and all my FLAC files are copied... Phewwww

Forgive my ignorance . . .
Why do you need a server if you have all your music stored on HDD/NAS attached to your PC? Would it not be simpler to use a PC based player (volumio for example) to make playlists and play music etc and send from your PC to your DAC via USB?
As I understand it you wish to 'control' everything from your PC (whilst surfing the web) so it seems like you're just adding another link in the chain by having a streamer/server into the equation.
If you want a server for SQ reasons that's another story of course but for your needs it sounds simpler to let the PC do all the work?
Like I say I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick here so ignore me if that's the case!

I think it sounds OK to be fair, now I have a quality Artisan Silver USB lead going from PC to a Matrix Audio SPDIF and a TQ Carbon HDMI going from its i2S connection to the corresponding one in the PS SGCD

A cheap, but good option to get a device to read and play your networked files with an easy to use App is either the Wiim Mini (<£90) or Pro (~£150). You can load the App on what ever device you want and control the mini/Pro from there. The Mini is wifi only whereas the Pro can be either wifi or wired, my Pro in system 2 even plays the files on my Innuos ZenITH.
