These lovely modest standmounts look worth a listen . many of you know Paul , his stuff is quite exceptional and these are only 1750 new which is rather a bargain imho apparently they dont need a sub . 90db sensitivity specs The new RFC Rubato is a medium sized stand mount loudspeaker with some remarkable qualities. Firstly, it is based upon a new production 6.5 inch coaxial loudspeaker. This comprises a central silk dome tweeter in its own wave guide horn loaded section, utilising a neodymium magnet. The tweeter is coaxially mounted within a 6.5 inch midwoofer giving a true point source image, both phase and time aligned.
The cabinet is a beautifully crafted high quality veneered Baltic birch ply enclosure which houses the point to point crossover. It is front port loaded for exceptional bass extension for its size and ease of placement. This makes for a rigid low colouration cabinet, internally damped and braced also housing the internal point to point hand assembled crossover, designed by RFC to achieve a low distortion phase correct and linear response.
The Rubato exhibits superb smooth off axis controlled directivity to 60 degrees free of the usual polar response waists for a smooth stable off axis image. It is a highly musical loudspeaker with exceptional imaging abilities allowing the speakers to disappear whilst throwing a broad and deep sound stage.
This little speaker offers quite remarkable performance with useful bass to 42 Hz and can be used nearfield thanks to the point source imaging as well as far field for conventional home hifi use. Sensitivity is excellent at close on 90dB/1w/1m and it is an easy benign amplifier load with a nominal 8 Ohm load (easy to drive).

If the driver performance is good enough, the coherence of a concentric design should be nice. I had a design years ago whose xover design and time alignment gave a really coherent top to bottom sound. The size is enough so the bass should be decent for a standmount.

Heard them at the Cranage show and they are sensationally good. They were driven by some really nice Radford Revival amps and were not at all phased at high volumes. Bass is deep and well presented and they were lovely to listen to

Excellent. I'm really pleased if these turn into a commercial success for Paul. He's put in the hours to get there, for sure.

I somehow missed this room, so am annoyed! Was keen to hear these. It's such a labyrinth at Cranage - I always seem to miss rooms!

They sounded remarkably unlike modest coaxials, they really dug deep on the end of Wills amps.

Bruce PM'd to remind me to give my report on these after last weekends BO. I didn't, along with many others, spend much time indoors as it was too hot, even so I made a point of having a listen to these. Initially they were fired up in the Playroom fed by a DAP and Chord Quetest into XTZ Edge A2-300s I missed this initial fire-up though I did venture in when they were on the end of an EAR V20. Must admit I was surprised at the sound coming from these diminutive boxes, clean, articulate and open with a level of bass I wasn't expecting, mids and hf were also very good. Edward had asked me if they could be plumbed into the main rig inplace of the Hecos, told him ggo for it whenever the boys are ready. Around mid afternoon he came out and said about the swap, so told him he knew how to swap speakers and to just do it (was to damn hot inside). The Rubatos definitely liked being fed by the MasterSounD Compact 845 and with the option of vinyl & Lector CDP-603 on the table those who stayed inside got stuck in. I came in for a listen and after tweaking their positioning (setup off centre) I sat down and really heard what they could do with better kit behind them, i was impressed. This time round not only were they sounding clean and articulate, there was a wide soundstage, superb imaging, a more open and sparkly treble combined with unforced detail. The bass was again deeper than their size suggests being tight and nicely textured, the mids had also blossomed with the better kit. If your not a bass monster and are after smaller standmounts that are a beguiling listen, detailed & nuanced without being clinical, have very good imaging, tonal balance & shading, whilst having good extension (beyond their physical size) then these really should be on your audition list.
