As I have a capable PC, running Win 10/2TB SSD/Audirvana, I am constantly told its not the best thing for my main music source (am disabled so a separate source like a TT or cd player is not an option). IF I decided to go down a proper music only source like Melco ( only name that springs to mind) can I have it somehow controlled from my pc so can say browse the net AND play a track from this FLAC or another at the same time? Would it need another remote to be used in conjunction with my mouse? Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I really need to know, as using the PC is a big part of my life now, and having a choice of 800+ albums to choose certain tracks from, and play them at a couple of mouse clicks as background music (well played a tad louder than just background music).

Most Music Streamers have an app that works on either an Android or Apple phone but in some cases they also have a Windows app as well and this will allow you to control the streamer via your PC . I use Logitech Media Server and that I control with my PC with ease . I have very little experience of other music streamers so can not be sure . Ask your specific question of who ever is selling you the streamer when they are then legally obliged to ensure that this works . An alternative is to get a Raspberry Pi load it with Logitech Media Server via Picoreplayer and add a sub hard drive to which you can copy your music to and it will play from there either via USB or you can add a digihat which will give you a digital output . If all that sounds a bit daunting then I would be more than happy to set one up and install it for you .

YES! Apart from Auralic who are IOS based and there re require an Apple device as a controller, most dedicated streamers have a multi-platform App. I have an Innuos ZenITH in my main system (ripper streamer) they also do the Pulse range which is a pure streaming transport. The Innuos Sense App works with all platforms (Android, IOS, Windows) and others and is purely a GUI and remote control so uses minimal resources on the host device. What ever streamer/digital transport you go for interrogate the App properly as this can make or break your user experience. BluOS, and Innuos Sense are probably 2 of the best free but streamer specific Apps, then you get into Roon etc.

I know I am probably asking to much, it just seems I am wanting too much from what I have at the mo. Long story short, getting a new PC next month will just give me what I have got now, only newer. As I play very rarely now whole albums, more different tracks (playlists if you will) its not really a consideration. Streaming, is not something I do apart from my own music collection

Pete I only play my own ripped music which is stored on a Hard Drive I do not use streaming services at all . That is why I put my second suggestion . However while it is a very reasonable cost it is not a straight off the shelf plug and play solution which is why I offered to help as I am very familiar with it . If you are an Amazon Prime member then they are selling the Wim streamers at a discount today and they will give you what you are looking for for a reasonable price and can be controlled from you PC .

Yep Wiim Pro is a wicked device for very little money, is UPNP, and will happily read files on a NAS or other network connected devices. Mine even pulls tunes off my ZenITH SSD and has a multi-platform control App.
