My Cadenza Black has got ~543 hours on it* and my thoughts have turned to what I’ll do next - re-tip, exchange for a new one, or sell and switch to something else.
I’m seriously thinking about getting out of the expensive MC game as I can’t be dropping £thousands on a new cartridge every 2-3 years and the Cadenza Black is now £650 more than when I bought mine(!). I’ve got a 2M Black which is great and suffers only in direct comparison to the Cadenza and I’ve always fancied trying one of the better AT MMs so I thought I’d see if there was any interest in the Cadenza.
They’re £2,650 new now, and my one probably has 1/3 of the life left in its stylus, so how would £850 delivered sound? It’s had a easy life as all my records, new or s/h, have been cleaned, most with a Velvet Vortex ultrasonic record cleaning machine. The stylus itself is dry-brushed before every album and cleaned with either Rodico Bergeon putty or an AT ultrasonic stylus cleaner & drop of Clearaudio Elixir stylus cleaner, once per week.
This is just an interest check, so if anyone is interested then I will make up my mind.
*If anything I think 543 is an over-estimate as it’s really a count of how many albums I’ve played, which I’ve assumed will be ~1hr each on average.

Dan HI Dan, I think this is a fair price for the cartridge, considering new costs and retip prices, but i fear a lot of people are now making the kind of move you are considering due to costs of HiEnd MC cartridge ownership. If i weren't in the same frame of mind as you, i would have taken this. The CaddyB is a monster, and i have spent a fair bit of time listening to them. I hope you find a loving home for it. GLWS.

Yep price is more than fair, and whilst I could certainly do with a decent cart for my re-plinthed 401/Jelco when its built this My feeling is too far up the food chain for me. I'm more than happy with the performance of my current Caddy Blue so will look at used carts in circa £1k new range for the 401. As for the hours on the Black, I would say that most albums are 40 - 45 mins so your hours would be somewhere between 360 & 400.

Thanks gents.
If it’s more like 400 hours, which makes sense, then I’ll probably just keep using it and get it retipped when it’s getting on for 700-800. If anyone wants to take it off my hands in the meantime then I’ll reevaluate.
