As many of you know, I replaced my speakers a week ago (and they are very good), while my dealer was here, getting them set up etc, I asked him what MAY be a decent upgrade for my PS Audio Stellar Gain Cell Dac, and would the newish Ferrum Audio "Wadala" suit what I have. He said they were quite a marmite unit, and if I wanted to hear one, he would look into it as he is a dealer for that brand and arrange for it to be home demoed. I am just looking into it at the moment

I am just looking into it at the moment Hi Pete, like most things, you can't really say or make even an educated guess until you compare them yourself in your own system. Sorry I know that's just the textbook answer but it rings very true. . . . Having said that I would fancy the Ferrum Wadala to be a smidge ahead of the PS Audio (only going on reviews), although I suspect in a lot of systems there wouldn't be much between them, so unless the Ferrum has any particular features you require over the PS Audio it may be a bit of a sideways move. Around that price I would also be considering some offerings from the likes of Holo Audio, Audio GD, Denafrips . . . . I'm more of a fan of R2R than D/S (as you can probably tell from that list . . .).

I have looked at various reviews, but take them with the proverbial pinch of salt. Anything that becomes a very serious move, would of course be heard at home with the gear I have

Hi kind folk, as way of an update to this thread, being budget conscious and not looking at getting an Auralic or some other fancy (meaning expensive for me) Dac/Pre, I am looking at the Ferrum Wandla again, as it has the 2 most important features that I really require, an analogue input for my Anthem A/V amp and a i2S to connect my Matrix Audio SPDIF ( which my main source, a PC is connected to via USB, as its all usb connections only). Its got a LOT of rave reviews, both in print and YouTube videos. Price wise in comparison to my PS SGCD, its about 1K more, which is OK I guess
