Way to much use of smilles Dave, its a nice dac its almost music and at this cost thats very unusual but is a quantum leap from the PS pipe and slippers presentation

misterc You don't now the difference between a smile and a wink? The wink was inserted due to Pete (lazy bugger ) not posting a link to the dac. Sorry I could only manage two smilies in this post. Oops, sorry three.

Looks a very capable DAC. Compared to a lot of the competition, looks a good price too. Not many DAC's get misterc 's (almost) seal of approval straight out the box too . . . so it's probably doing a couple of things right at least. Interesting 'hybrid' output stage.

That dac has a few tricks up its sleeve with its dsp filters, same guy who had a hand in the HQ player, which isnt for me but a lot of head phone guys like the ability to dick about with ploysinc's

well if Mr C intimates they are half decent, then I must listen to one at home What I'm getting at here Pete is this
The sound is Polar opposite to the PS audio equipment, way different if you are used to the PA audio way of things and you have their amps as well (the Bascom mono are quite soporific) although those 700 monos you have are pretty sleepy as well.
Always make sure the unit you are auditioning has at least 100 hours of use on it, otherwise you are just pissing in the wind

well just say I am seriously thinking of getting one, what would you recommend amp wise? Bel Canto Again the 601M's are VERY different to the PS audio, before spending any money you really need (IMHO) to go further afield and visit dealers that have this equipment in stock so you can genuinelly listen it rather than feeling that will be right.
IMHO better to take your time and work through the right equipment to audition before dropping ANY coin spend in haste repent with a BIG hair cut and its your money you worked hard for it, make it work for you even a couple of ISA's will be enough in a few years to buy that replace amplifier without touching your capitial.
Even I very rarely purchase test equipment new (only if I have zero option) look at the bigger plan, dont ' fit products' in your mind to suit what you feel is right, been there and its a costily and time consuming excerise.
Start with a clean slate imho better to travel the country spend say £300 on fuel and travel inn's etc then shell out five figures only to find it doesn't work for you in your room just a genuinelly honest piece of advice THINK before spending it will save a lot of grief on the future.
If I add up the amount of impulse buys I made in the early years I seriously could have purchase a row of old houses in Manchester no problem.
Don't make that mistake Pete, life is for living no stressing over whether dac 'a' is going to transform my system odd's on it wonlt until you take a completely holistic approach.

I wish to point out your Honor, that I am going to eliminate test equipment purchases from this conversation on the grounds its self incriminating. However for personal audio I feel its very valid
